You're both right and wrong, it comes from paganism allright..
That is, Gnostic "Christian" paganism and idolatry!

Wicca is just the latest in a long line of cherry-picking salad bar religions mostly followed by angst-ridden zit-faced teenagers.
God hates wicca for the pathetic attempts at witchcraft it promotes..
And for the lousy attempts to lead people away from Christ and eternal Salvation!
So far however, wicca has failed to draw any non-retarded persons, so that's not really a big loss though.

God hates retards (that's why He made them retarded), as we all know.

Surely no religion is older than 6,000 years anyway, so it's all a bit academic?

Ah, so Hairy the Homer admits that everything wrong in America is due to those damnable Secular Humanists!!

Well, at least you can admit it!

Wicca as practised today by the likes of Mooniepie would seem to be a phenomenon that started in the sixties.

This used to be referred to as Eclectic Wicca, to distinguish it from:

    Alexandrian Wicca
    Blue Star Wicca
    Correllian Nativist Church (Correllian Wicca)
    Dianic Wicca (Feminist witchcraft)
    Faery Wicca
    Gardnerian Wicca
    Kemetic Wicca
    Odyssean Wicca
    Seax-Wica

Gardnerian Wicca was a form of "lineaged" Wicca, which required initiation into a coven after being introduced by a coven member. It was exclusive and secretive. Gardner claimed it was not his own idea but simply a contiuation and revival of European Paganism.

Curiously, people like to claim that he invented it in the 50s because the material he worked from (his claims to have been initiated into a covern by Dorothy Clutterbuck or a mysterious woman called Dorfa [or something] are questionable) was patchy and he added bits of his own. I think they like to do this because to say that it was begun only 50 odd years ago seems to make it less valid a religion.

Ironically, others argue that all his material was pinched from other sources like Crowley and other bits and pieces. The hippy Wiccanism of Moonflower and Co (Ecletic Wicca) is not necessarily something that Gardner would approve of. That Wicca and Christianity itself is all pinched from ancient paganism is not surprising. Religion is religion is religion; a common thread runs through them all.

But Rach, old thing, what do you, as a person who is much opposed to child brides, the exploitation of women, and cruelty generally, I suppose (unless it is sacrificing cats to the horned one -- sorry, I can't help myself),think it is that makes modern western society more civilised than what went on in the dark ages or the middle ages or in Mohommad's time?

I'll tell you, Rach: it's the rise of secular liberal humanism! Yes, Rach, it's not Christianity, not Paganism, not Wicca, not Islam, not Buddism, etc, etc, it is the rise of secular liberal humanism on the back of science (including medicine of course). Sheeesh, what is it with fluffies and thinking that they are being 'bashed' anytime anyone tries to simply tell them what reality is??

Are you going to throw marshmallows at me? Maybe deny me a hug? Oh, gods spare me!

If you do, then I won't reply, because I'm not in the mood right now. If you don't, and say that I am, then I will gladly reply.

Either you know about Buddha and are intentionally posting lies, or you do not know about Buddha.

Either you know about Buddha and lied that a Hotei statue is of Buddha, or you do not know the difference. (You actually confessed that you lied to "have fun", establishing that you are a liar.)

Either you know Buddha was born about 400-500 BC and lied saying 4,500 years ago (2,500 BC), or you do not know when Buddha was born.

You are either a liar or ignorant and bluffing in an attempt to confuse us.

I'm not going to bother asking yet again which it is, since you have promised not to respond.
