Re: 50 Proofs that God Exists
Believing in God is the logical thing to do when you turn to attacking the atheist standpoints. Here is where logic can be applied, on the very front doorstep of those who try to live by it. I myself have been known to post in logical terms when rubbishing atheist beliefs.
But logic should not be turned to when proving God exists, the bible warns against this kind of line of thought. Do not sully the battlefield of proving God's existence with dirty, filthy "logic" but rather rejoice in the crystalline purity of faith.

Conjunction fallacy: assumption that an outcome simultaneously satisfying multiple conditions is more probable than an outcome satisfying a single one of them.
Nirvana fallacy: when solutions to problems are said not to be right because they are not perfect.
Teleological Fallacy: In which a speaker claims that some object or idea has a purpose, and then claims that the existence of this purpose suggests or requires that the speaker's argument is true. The initial claim that a purpose must exist is rarely explicitly stated.
Fallacy of necessity: a degree of unwarranted necessity is placed in the conclusion based on the necessity of one or more of its premises.
Argument from repetition (argumentum ad nauseam): signifies that it has been discussed extensively (possibly by different people) until nobody cares to discuss it anymore
Argument from ignorance (appeal to ignorance): The fallacy of assuming that something is true/false because it has not been proven false/true. For example: "The student has failed to prove that he didn't cheat on the test, therefore he must have cheated on the test."
Begging the question (petitio principii): where the conclusion of an argument is implicitly or explicitly assumed in one of the premises
Correlation does not imply causation (cum hoc ergo propter hoc): a phrase used in the sciences and the statistics to emphasize that correlation between two variables does not imply that one causes the other
Demanding negative proof: attempting to avoid the burden of proof for some claim by demanding proof of the contrary from whoever questions that claim
Fallacy of many questions (complex question, fallacy of presupposition, loaded question, plurium interrogationum): someone asks a question that presupposes something that has not been proven or accepted by all the people involved. This fallacy is often used rhetorically, so that the question limits direct replies to those that serve the questioner's agenda.
Perfect solution fallacy: where an argument assumes that a perfect solution exists and/or that a solution should be rejected because some part of the problem would still exist after it was implemented
Cherry picking: act of pointing at individual cases or data that seem to confirm a particular position, while ignoring a significant portion of related cases or data that may contradict that position
Ad hominem: attacking the person instead of the argument. A form of this is reductio ad Hitlerum.
Argumentum ad populum ("appeal to belief", "appeal to the majority", "appeal to the people"): where a proposition is claimed to be true solely because many people believe it to be true
Argumentum ad baculum ("appeal to the stick" or "appeal to force"): where an argument is made through coercion or threats of force towards an opposing party
Appeal to authority: where an assertion is deemed true because of the position or authority of the person asserting it
Appeal to consequences: a specific type of appeal to emotion where an argument concludes that a premise is either true or false based on whether the premise leads to desirable or undesirable consequences for a particular party
Appeal to fear: a specific type of appeal to emotion where an argument is made by increasing fear and prejudice towards the opposing side
Appeal to motive: where a premise is dismissed, by calling into question the motives of its proposer
Argument from silence (argumentum ex silentio): a conclusion based on silence or lack of contrary evidence
People on this website that call themselves or are called "true christians actually use these fallacies at least 95% of the time.
It would be more interesting for people to listen to you if you were actually open to other people's ideas, or at least ready to listen to them.

Not to mention his ridiculous claims that Buddhists don't pray (they do: http://www.bffct.net/id41.html , from a Buddhist website).Originally posted by GOD=life View Post
Their religion mandates that they pray 5 times a day. You call that "not often"?
That Hindus don't pray that often (most of them pray several times a day - http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/71816 )
Or that Sikhs don't pray at all - (they actually have very strict rules about prayers that are performed every day, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikhism...es_and_customs )
But hey, you can't really expect an atheist to actually do research before talking out of his ass

Re: 50 Proofs that God Exists
The ones I couldn't answer, I deleted.Originally posted by Heathen_Basher View Post1. The universe has such a flawless design that it necessitates a creator, and the Christian God is the only one who could have done that.
And couldn't any other god have done that?
2. Every story in the Bible is backed up 100% by archeology, so the Bible was obviously inspired by the creator of the universe.
Because every story in the Bible is a recording of actual events, if bent a little.
5. Belief in God is the only logical worldview.
Evolution seems logical. Every birth, an animal is changed a little. Makes sense, I suppose?
7. Jesus was either lying, crazy, or really God. As the Bible says Jesus was not lying or crazy, He must have really been God.
And the Bible couldn't have lied?
8. The Bible says the Bible is true, therefore it is.
See the answer above.
9. The Bible is UNIVERSALLY regarded as the "Good Book" (if you only count decent people).
Because generally, followers of the Bible are good people.
10. Without God, people turn into immoral, cruel, sadistic monsters.
I haven't. My parents haven't. My friends haven't.
11. All morality comes from the Christian God as described in the Bible. Non-Christians are immoral.
All the other religions promote morality as well.
12. Our personalities prove that God is real.
...What?
13. Jesus' resurrection is real because ancient legend tells us that the 12 Apostles were martyred for their faith. There is no other explanation for the story in the Bible except 1) it's completely true, or 2) it was an intentional hoax.
And it couldn't have been an intentional hoax?
14. Jesus radically changed the world.
So did Hitler, but he doesn't prove god exists.
15. All intelligent people believe in the Christian God.
What about Stephen Hawking? Or, Stephen Fry?
16. So many people believe in God, it is arrogant to suggest otherwise. (note: this does not apply to the God's of other religions)
So many people don't believe in god, It's arrogant to suggest otherwise.
18. The Second Law of Thermodynamics proves evolution is not so.
How so?
19. The Bible alone, of all the world's "holy" books (note: only the Bible is really Holy, the rest is inspired by Satan) contain such detailed prophecies of future events.
I'll only take this one when the Second Coming happens.
20. The Bible (interpreted as per historic Christian orthodoxy) cannot be challenged on any basis as the sole, final truth-standard (Galatians 1:8)
You must have said this about 5 times now.
22. Unbelief in God is actually unwillingness to submit to Him.
Or, you don't believe in God.
23. Without God, people have no adequate sense of meaning and purpose, therefore God is real.
Or, we have no adequate sense of meaning and purpose.
24. People who convert to Christianity have radically changed lives (but people who convert out of Christianity do not)
Because they've converted to Christianity, that's quite a change...
25. The Bible has no contradictions, and even the stuff that looks like contradictions can be explained if you look hard enough for a way to reconcile them.
26. Hundreds of scholarly books carefully document the veracity and reliability of the Bible. There is no scholarly evidence against the Bible.
Because the Bible recorded things that happened, but a lot of it can't be proven.
27. The Bible has survived and even flourished in spite of centuries of worldwide attempts to destroy and ban its message. Obviously, the Bible is indestructible because God wrote it.
You could say the same thing about Buddhism. They've lasted longer. Or, you could say it about Judaism, who are even older, or, you could say it about Hiduism, who are over 3000 years older.
29. Christianity is the ONLY religion whose leader is said to have risen from the dead (counting only current, popular religions)
Your point is what, exactly?
30. How do you explain the empty tomb of Jesus in light of all the evidence that has now proven essentially irrefutable for twenty centuries?
What evidence? Has Jesus' tomb been found? No? Then, I'm afraid, no evidence.
31. Because the Bible says Jesus was real, that He was crucified and that there were guards posted at His tomb, it is certainly impossible that Jesus survived the crucifixion and escaped the tomb, and therefore the Resurrection is necessarily true.
Or, it was a lie.
32. The authorities would not have stolen Jesus' body, therefore the Resurrection is true.
Prove it please.
33. If Jesus did not actually die and rise from the dead, how could He (in His condition) have circumvented all of the security measures in place at His tomb?
Maybe his body was moved.
34. One verse in a letter of Paul says that 500 people saw Jesus. Obviously, they did, so God is real.
Or, Jesus is not God.
35. If all of Jesus' claims to be God were the result of His own self-delusion, why doesn't the Bible evidence lunacy in any other areas of His life?
Because if you were writing a dating ad, would you mention your untidiness and unorganization?
37. People don't believe in God only because of their own personal problems.
I have no problems, and I don't believe.
38. The 35-40 men who wrote the Bible over a span of 1500 managed to write a unified message (as I said, the Bible never contradicts itself), therefore God inspired them.
Or they studied the Bible and made sure they didn't conflict.
39. The Declaration of Independence says, "all men are endowed by their Creator..." therefore God is real.
That's not real evidence.
40. Science is just another (false) religion.
Science has proven far more than what your God has. If it wasn't for science, we'd be living in mud huts, hunting boar in the woods.
41. What do you make of all the anthropological studies indicating that even the most remote tribes show some sort of theological awareness?
Nature has imprinted the idea of God in all life. Besides, one minute you're saying all other religions are false, then you're using it as evidence?
42. Why subscribe to the incredible odds that the tilt and position of our planet relative to the sun are merely coincidental, considering how small the universe is? Isn't it much more likely the Bible is correct in saying the sun revolves around a flat earth?
How small the universe is? There are hundreds of billions of stars, each with a handful of planets, so please, don't say that the universe is small.
44. It's impossible to argue against atheists because no matter how much logical evidence you show them, they will continue in their delusion of disbelieve.
It's impossible to argue against Christians because no matter how much logical evidence you show then, they will continue in their delusion of belief.
45. All prayers (of good people) are answered, therefore God exists.
Are they? Are they really?
46. More people believe in Christianity than any other religion, so it must be true.
That's like saying more people think the world is flat, so it must be true.
47. All (good) people are healed from diseases.
No, they aren't.
48. The Bible is 100% scientifically accurate.
Stop talking in circles, don't disprove something and use it as evidence later.
49. As we see, all good Christians are prosperous, healthy, and happy (and vice versa). All bad heathens are poor, sick, and miserable (and vice versa). Clearly, God exists.
Because Christianity promotes incorruptibility, and tries to make people good men, something I admire, and that's why these men are prosperous, not because God exists.
50. There has never been any claims of people from other religions having their prayers answered, so Christianity is the only right religion.
Because Christians pray more than every other religion, some things are bound to come true. Muslims don't pray too often, Buddhists don't pray, rather they meditate, Hindus pray, I think, but not at all often, and Sikhs don't pray at all.

Thank you, Brother Nobar.Originally posted by Nobar King View PostThat is so beautiful, Cookie, I'm amazed that people are so resistant.
From what I've seen, so many of the Sad, Unsaved, Spiritual Nomads who shuffle in here to mock us have had terrible things (or rather, things they SAW as terrible, at the time) happen to them in their past. This leaves them bitter, and feeling untrusting (or unworthy) of love.
If they only knew how God™ would love and protect them, if they would but give Him™ the chance.
These people will go to 3rd base with a stranger. Why won't they take a home run with Jesus™?

Here's a little thought I sometimes give to newcomers:Originally posted by Jonny_forbiddenseed View PostEither way, god still doesn't exist.
If you live your life according to God™s Biblical(tm) plan, and believe in Him™, you will go to Heaven™ after you die, because you'll be Saved™
You can also live that same devoted life, but if there IS no God™ (which is not what I'm claiming, BTW) when it's all over you'd just be dead and won't know it...so either way you win.
It's a way of taking care of yourself. Don't you love yourself enough to give yourself that gift?
