As a medical professional, I have always been a less-is-more kind of a guy; less healthcare = more tax cuts. So it is a bittersweet moment for me to see Trumpcare v2 crash and burn in the Senate. Yes I liked that there would be less healthcare and yes I liked the tax cuts. But something about it always felt wrong.
Now it is off the table, we can have a serious look at doing healthcare right in America. Donald Trump as usual is leading the way - let's just repeal Obamacare. Don't think about what comes next.
This is failsafe plan. One I believe championed by our Brexiter friends across the pond. We'll give ourselves a 2 year deadline to come up with a new plan (that'll be 9 years total if we include the 7 years already devoted to repeal and replace).
If no plan is agreed, then we default to no healthcare for all: either you throw us off a cliff or we'll throw ourselves of a cliff. Your choice.
This is the exact same strategy the Conservative Party is using to negotiate Brexit and look how well that is working it.
