I Looked Up " Soli Deo Gloria"

When Trump's Big Beautiful Tax Bill passed, Republican Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, posted the Latin "Soli Deo Gloria." Because Mike is a Southern Baptist I could not understand why he was posting something that sounded Catholic. So, I visited some trusted Republican sites and learned it is Latin for "Thank you Jesus for passing the Big Beautiful Bill."

And why would Jesus not be pleased? The bill puts lazy Medicaid freeloaders to work. It raises taxes on the poor and gives nice benefits to we the worthy rich and spends huge dollars chasing immigrants, legal or not, out of our country.

I have no use for conservatives in name only who are complaining about using the Bible to win the Trump agenda. If it takes a little Latin, go for it.

Have those (overwhelmingly papist) freaks read The Bible, even a bit? I have. There is the parable of the Talents.

    "What are talents?"

(If they have to ask the question they'd never understand the answer.)

"They're what no Romish clergy ever had."

Because—let's face it—if any Christian witness prevailed, the number of graven images whether wood or stone or metal would reduce. Instead, they're everywhere. Claiming lies to be truth requires indoctrination on an industrial scale. Otherwise they'd just present their stuff and that would be that. Latin is a great language (I was excused Latin at school but they had Greek, fortunately, given the ejaculations of Rome) so exactly what sort of Baptist accepts Latin doctrine, it is not my place to comment.

    So I won't.
