Re: Eugene, Oregon Hates God And America!

File THIS story under the catagory "You mean they didn't already have queer marriage in Oregon?!"

Oregon’s gay marriage ban struck down

Oregon’s decade-old ban on same-sex marriage was struck down today by U.S. District Judge Michael McShane, a highly anticipated decision that immediately allowed throngs of joyous gay and lesbian couples across the state to tie the knot.

In a written ruling issued at noon, McShane found that the voter-approved ban was unconstitutional because it violates gay people’s equal protection rights under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. McShane did not stay, or delay, his decision, which allowed same-sex marriages to begin at once.

In Lane County, around 20 couples were present at the county clerk’s office in downtown Eugene when marriage licenses began being issued in the early afternoon. Several of the couples said they planned to marry that very day.

McShane ruled that the state had “no legitimate purpose” in limiting marriage to one man and one woman. In his opinion, he rebutted the argument that the state should protect the “tradition” of heterosexual-only marriage.

If tradition alone could legally supplant individuals’ constitutional right to equal protection under the law, he wrote, it could be used as “a rubber stamp condoning discrimination against longstanding, traditionally oppressed minority classes everywhere.”

McShane also dismissed arguments that the state is protecting children with the ban. That line of thinking ignores the adopted children of gay couples who, like their parents, are “degraded, humiliated and stigmatized” by the ban, he wrote.

“At the core of the Equal Protection Clause,” McShane wrote, “there exists a foundational belief that certain rights should be shielded from the barking crowds; that certain rights are subject to ownership by all and not the stakehold of popular trend or shifting majorities.”

McShane is the seventh consecutive federal judge to toss out a state’s same-sex marriage ban following the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision last year to strike down key parts of the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

Oregon’s ban — approved by voters as an amendment to the state constitution in 2004 — was challenged by four gay couples last year. In February, Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum said she would not defend the ban in court because of the Surpreme Court’s decision.

McShane’s ruling came despite a last-ditch effort by the National Organization for Marriage — an advocacy group based in Washington, D.C. that opposes same-sex marriage — to delay it.

The group requested an emergency stay from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals this morning to block any immediate ruling by McShane. Around 45 minutes before McShane’s ruling was expected, the federal appeals court rejected that motion.

The National Organization for Marriage is also asking the appellate court to allow them to intervene in the case — a motion that McShane initially denied last week. The appellate court has not yet taken any action on that request.

Unless the National Organization for Marriage is allowed to intervene, however, no opponent of same-sex marriage has standing in the case to appeal McShane’s ruling. Representatives of the National Organization for Marriage could not reached for comment today.

Ultimately, McShane’s ruling may not be definitive until the issue goes back to the U.S. Supreme Court, which many observers expect it will.

In his often plainly worded written opinion, McShane, who is gay and raising a child with his longtime partner, alluded to his own life experiences as he called for greater understanding on the gay marriage issue.

Noting that “generations of Americans, my own included, were raised in a world in which homosexuality was believed to be a moral perversion, a mental disorder or a mortal sin,” McShane recalled that “one of the more popular playground games of my childhood was called ‘smear the queer.’”

That “worldview led to an environment of cruelty, violence and self-loathing,” he added.

“With discernment we see not shadows lurking in closets or the stereotypes of what was once believed; rather, we see families committed to the common purpose of love, devotion and service to the greater community,” McShane wrote.

McShane’s ruling was widely applauded by gay marriage advocates and Oregon’s leading politicians — including U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio and Gov. John Kitzhaber.

“With today’s ruling, Oregon can reaffirm a commitment to ensuring civil rights for all citizens, not just some,” said DeFazio, the Springfield Democrat, in a prepared statement. “While there is still work to be done in our state and around the country, today’s ruling in Eugene certainly marks an important milestone in the ongoing fight for equality for all.”

David Fidanque, executive director of the ACLU of Oregon, an organization that has long been involved in the same-sex marriage issue, said that “the importance of Judge McShane’s decision cannot be overemphasized.”

“Our federal Constitution does not allow any state — or its voters — to deny same-sex couples equal protection under the law simply because of who they are and who they love,” he said in a prepared statement.

The Oregon Catholic Conference, however, slammed the decision as “a travesy of justice” and an attempt to redefine “authentic” marriages — which, they argue, are unions between one man and one woman for the purposes of procreation.

“Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, in an extreme dereliction of her sworn duty to uphold the law, refused to represent the interests and the people of Oregon,” the group said in a prepared statement. “It is a sad day for democracy when one federally appointed judge can overturn, without any representation, the express will of the people of Oregon.”

There was no announcement today from the backers of a possible ballot measure to legalize gay marriage this November. The Oregon United for Marriage group, which has been gathering voter signatures in recent months, had previously said they would drop their effort if the same-sex marriage ban was struck down in court.

Spokesman Peter Zuckerman said that today “was about celebrating the victory” and that the final decision on a ballot measure would come later.
Satan was busy today in godless Eugene, Oregon.

Oregon Christians Seek Protection From Homosexual Activists

First they came for the bakers: Oregonians seek religious freedom referendum

Excerpted from article by Charlie Butts (OneNewsNow.com) Thursday, March 13, 2014

Christians in Oregon are struggling to get appropriate ballot language for a proposed constitutional amendment that would protect them from homosexual activists.

Friends of Religious Freedom is going through the process of getting the proposal on the ballot to let voters decide. Friends is part of the Oregon Family Council.

Teresa Harke, a spokesperson for the group, says the group is having trouble getting appropriate ballot language from the state Attorney General’s Office.

The state office gave the group what Harke describes as a “not very good ballot title.”

The Oregonian newspaper reported the title for the initiative basically adopts the wording sought by opponents of the measure – homosexual activists. The current ballot title reads:

“Religious belief” exceptions to anti-discrimination laws for refusing services, other, for same-sex ceremonies, “arrangements.”

Friends of Religious Freedom opposes any reference to discrimination in the wording.

“So now we’re in the public comment section, where we say what we think it should be and other folks chime in on what they think it should be,” Harke explains.

Eventually there will be an approved ballot title, “and we’re hoping for a good ballot title,” she says.

Harke says the intention is to protect people’s religious beliefs if they provide a service that violates that faith, especially for homosexual weddings and civil unions.

An example in Oregon is Sweet Cakes by Melissa, a bakery sued by homosexuals, and found guilty of discrimination by the state of Oregon, for refusing to bake a cake for a homosexual “wedding.”

Attention Unsaved Trash: This the ONLY subforum you can start threads in. Here is where you introduce yourself. Tell us what church you go to and what your favorite Bible verse is and how you came to find Jesus.

The thing that brings me to ask this question is this one verse from Timothy.

2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." (King James Version)

Could you please explain that to me?
Thanks for being inconsiderate enough to feel it is a waste of your time to introduce yourself like civilized people do.

The Bible is a very simply book. No hidden meaning. No decoder ring needed. It was written for the simplest of minds to grasp.
Therefore, if I 'explain it', I would only be 'coloring the words' with my own thoughts, not Gods. God said, I could not possibly say it any better.

If you were just going to say one thing, why didn't you stop there? Don't the literature-loving professors in Eugene teach basic English expression alongside their liberal socialist propeganda? Anyway, why are you so judgmental of us? Remember, the Bible tells us, judge not that ye not be judged. Matthew 7:1

Sorry to all you "devote" christians who can't let loose and have a little fun because oh lord its got to be a sign of sin and the devil!
You simply don't understand us. We love to have fun, but most of the fun happens after we are married. You should try rocking out some time with some really good, clean music with positive family values, such as this:

The old slogan is still true: once you go Lord, you'll never be bored.

If one of you low life pieces of scum were to actually come visit Eugene you would find a loving peaceful small college town that loves literature and history.... Each and every post from an individual on here is crazy and filled with lies and judgment... small minds such as you dumb pastors RUIN this country and help support segregation. GROW UP.
Is this the kind of language people from Eugene use to express their loving peacefulness?

    Anybody with a brain
And now we see your true colors. You think that everyone who believes in God is a moron. Well, we True Christians™ have no place for that kind of bigotry. You talk about peace and love and being non-judgemental, but then you get very smug. No, don't worry, I will forgive you, as Jesus demands. Besides, it's probably not your fault that you are a fool: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. Psalm 14:1 God probably made you a fool to punish some sin your parents or grandparents or great-grandparents committed.

knows the churches just take and take and take MONEY from people
Our church doesn't take money from people. Tithing is completely voluntary at Landover. If someone doesn't meet our minimum net worth test or simply doesn't want to tithe, the Deacons will gladly help that person to find another church that is more suitable.

when one can learn everything and more from the piffleing history channel.
If you can learn everything from the History Channel, then why should the people of Oregon waste their tax dollars on a university? That's just one more example of big government forcibly confiscating money from job creators.

Stop your judging and start loving a bit more.... Get outta here you conceited piffleing prick.
Right back atcha, except the "prick" part. Jesus does not approve of that kind of language!

I have not been to the introduction thread yet, and I am not sure if I will. I just wanted to respond. Not debate.

I do not claim to have as much knowledge of the bible as many of the members on this forum. I do believe in God, and did grow up in a small church in southern oregon. By growing up I mean attending church, practicing what was taught to us through the bible, and believing whole heartedly in it. I can't attest to how much I still hold onto from my time at church. But do know that since starting a family of my own I do have an interest to go back. Having this background I respect your ability to whole heartedly believe and enjoy the bible, and the teachings the bible provides. Now I may be confused a bit more now than I was when I was younger. Mainly with the way society has changed, and with it our views on religion. I do think that over the years things get twisted and altered, and that the bible was the one thing that withstood this change. Or should withstand it. Maybe not so much in the literal sense however. Do you believe that the teachings of the time reflect what we should be practicing today? This is not me debating. I am honestly curious what you think.

The thing that brings me to ask this question is this one verse from Timothy.

We are not hateful people. It does, however, get our dander up when religious bigots like you tell us that the Bible is wrong.

On the other hand, I love your nickname. John 8 is one of my favorite books of the Bible (though, really, they're all my favorites). I especially love the way Jesus rebuked the Jews in John 8:44: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. Jesus is such a great role model!
