Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, declared on Sunday that Russia is “a gas station masquerading as a country” and that the United States should be providing military and energy assistance to Ukraine and imposing economic sanctions on Russia mid the fast-moving situation in the region.

“I think that economic sanctions are a very important step,” Mr. McCain said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Russia is a gas station masquerading as a country. It’s kleptocracy; it’s corruption. It’s a nation that is really only dependent upon oil and gas for their economy, and so economic sanctions are important. Give some military assistance to Ukrainians at least so they can defend themselves.”

Mr. McCain also called on the U.S. to resume a plan for missile defense installations in Poland and the Czech Republic, a scheme strongly opposed by Russia that President Obama put the brakes on early in his first term.

God bless the GOP! Nobody can dehumanize entire so-called "nations" with one sweeping statement. And since America is without sin, we have a God given right to cast stones at our enemies. I hope he rattles China's cage next. I'm going to stock up on popcorn, this is gonna be great!

Look, I'm all in favor of anything that moves us towards WW3, or at least another Cold War, but could we please not talk about oil?

I mean, next thing people are going to say that we should resist Putin by becoming more energy-efficient, and that's just plain ecoterrorism.

In Russia, they throw their super-rich oligarchs into prison. Thankfully, in the USA, our oligarchs get bailouts. I think that says it all - Russia is hopelessly corrupt.

Thankfully, our awesome purchased Supreme Court ruled in the Citizen's United case that's there's no limit on how much cash we can give to outstanding spokesmen like John McCain to get the message out to the public that there's no corruption in the USA.

Remember, the rich are the job creators. And just like the little people, we pay taxes. Last year I paid over $14 million in taxes on my pre-bailout income of $895,768,322. That's even more money than my company donated to John McCain's re-election campaign!

Without a doubt, the USA would be fully justified in nuking Russia back to the Stone Age.

If it's to do with oil, it's to do with US National Security. (If anyone didn't know that, they certainly learnt that when we invaded Iraq!) Therefore we must invade Russia. It's about National Security.
