I have searched the site to the best of my abilities, but I have found no sermons or postulation to help me in this matter.
Firstly, please be assured that in no way am I suggesting that I have earned the right to think of myself as a True Christian yet - I know only too well that I may never reach that wonderful goal - but I am striving every day to learn and put myself in God’s grace. I hope that if I take the right path in everything I do, one day I too will be saved.
Therefore, I would beseech my betters to guide me as to the use of my time when I need to temporarily lay my KJV down in order to allow my brain to fully absorb its lessons.
Obviously hunting and fishing are honourable pursuits for all men;
Mark 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
Jeremiah 16:16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.
I had thought that gardening would also be a godly use of my time and the bible would support that option;
Jeremiah 29:5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them
However, I was recently in B&Q (a UK store similar to the Home Depot in the USA) buying some new pots and cutlery as a present for my wife’s birthday, when I noticed two “gardeners” enter the store and walk straight to the flower section of the garden centre, without even the slightest glance at the power tools or the sit-on lawnmowers as they passed them. I decided right there and then that gardening, was not a pastime for me!
Football (the sport played using your feet) is ubiquitous in the UK. It has its attractions, but I’m not sure that it would have God’s approval given that papist Brazil is very good at it, and it’s leader is a corrupt Swiss with a very dubious name.
The sport I’m most interested in receiving guidance about is golf. Many (self professed, I admit) Christians play golf. You may have heard of some of the more successful players like Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson and Hunter Mahan.
I like golf, it’s played widely in Scotland (the home of golf) and I seem to have developed something of a proficiency in its execution.
Given the above, do you think I would have God’s blessing to continue in this pursuit?
