    Landover Baptist Can Help You Finish Strong

    When I drop in for coffee at the Freehold Senior Center every week I'm a little disheartened at some old people there. While many are true believing Baptists there are some who were Christians but slid away. How foolish it is to shun Jesus in the last years of one's life. It's like a football player running with the ball and stopping just short of the goal to contemplate the meaning of life.

    We at Landover Baptist can help Christians who let up late in life. Sure, some get weary of praying for forgiveness and listening to long sermons. We can help power through these times.

    Older people feeling the long years of life are taxing the energy they have for the faith should join Landover Baptist in its war against sin. For example, by pointing out the sins of others in a nursing home you help those others but also feel the glow of Jesus' approval. This helps shorten the long days and evenings of not much to do.

    Save others and save yourself by finishing strong in the journey of life:

    Oh, my, but this is such heart-warming news, dear Brother Mayor Hold. It's so important to give the elderly, young-at-heart folks something that brings joy into their drab, dreary lives. And, speaking of helping others, why, just the other day, I was in the Piggly Wiggly, where I had a lovely chat with none other than the very helpful Aunt Annie. She was checking the community bulletin board, as she still gets requests for help from the public, at her "Ask Aunt Annie" column. So, there's an example of doing good deeds, to help others, and to get a bit of joy from doing those good works.

    And, speaking of pointing out the sins or others, I know of one nursing home resident, in particular, who is a very popular topic in this regard, as he has no shortage of sins to discuss:

      I can't imagine how heartbreaking it must be for a pastor to watch an elderly congregant lapse in their faith right before they pass on to God's judgment. After all, what becomes of the estate? If it isn't willed to the church as a token of gratitude for helping them along the path to Glory, who gets it? Their children or, God forbid, some charity, to fritter it away in vanity instead of using it to further Christ's message? These selfish old bags need to think about the other souls that could be saved with that offering but won't be because it was snatched away at the last moment, alongside the last few seconds free of infernal torture that the decrepit old agnostic cowards will ever experience for the rest of eternity. Alzheimers is no excuse for apostasy!
      I was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore,
      Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more;
      But the Master of the Sea heard my despairing cry,
      From the waters lifted me, now safe am I!

        Indeed there seem to be many parallels between religion and portfolio investment. Not all of us were lucky to be born into evangelical faith but had to make the change later in life. All the years spent drinking alcohol, listening to rock'n'roll, taking the drugs and fornicating with young ladies - sometimes two at the same time - were wasted.

        Fortunately in our later years we wiped our slate clean of sin and are now nicely poised to sit at Christ's right hand in Heaven after we pass. This is like the investment plans offered by brokerages that rebalance automatically from hot stocks to sensible low yield bonds as we approach our final years.

        Unlike some religions that require years of devotion to eke out a nest egg from decades or even multiple lifetimes of low yield investment in good deeds, sacrifice and serving others, the Christian church only requires you make the switch in time. Personally, I set my "retirement date" at the age of 60 to leave a buffer, just in case - getting caught out by dying early risks ending up in Hell!
        If I have seen further, it is by standing on the heads of others.

          I'm thinking we at LBC could sell a NOW IS THE TIME handicapped walker. Buyers would be told, "Your time is up, repent your sins and come to Jesus NOW." The walker could display a sign, something like "I made it in time. Have you?" Maybe others can think of an even better sign.
