Re: Is Your Child a Godless Goth?
Once again honorable Mr. Rodimer I shall endeavor to do my best to find scriptual citation for those aspects of Hell. My origional descriptions were based in my own literary imagination for what I supposed the fiend Satan could prepare to torture damned souls, but let us see what the good word has to say about this.
First off, we have Revelations 20:9-10
"And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
On the onset here, we realize Hell is not only a place of fire and brimstone, but a place populated with all manner of vile things. Another thing to consider is the fact there is an active state of torment never-ceasing which will last an eternity. In my understanding of infinity, every possible combination of horrifying and torturous activities will occur an inumerable ammount of times. That's one of the unfortunate things about Hell, the knowledge of pain and suffering there is complete enough to ensure that an infinite selection of punishments are available to the great masses of the damned.
Amos 5:18
"Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light."
Here we see at the final judgement those found lacking will find themselves entering a realm of darkness. So besides the fire, brimstnone, demons, devils, and torture, it will predominantly be hard to see it happening to boot. Something tells me occasions for seeing it coming and occasions for not will both be available throughout the course of eternity.
Matthew 24:50-51
"The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Here was see an example of the effects of the torture where the psychological pain of damnation manifests itself in the tears of the judged as well as the physical pain associated with pain so hard, your teeth grate together through your screams. The point here is that not only will the body be continuously torn and marred, so will the mind. Considering Lucifer was once one of God's greatest angel's his intelligence and insight will prove completely devestating to the all to fragile human psyche.
2 Thessalonians 1:9
"Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;"
Here we see one of the worst punishemnts of Hell, the knowledge of Heaven and Christ. Here we know the damned are fully aware of the implications of their sinful lives and must exist not only in torment, but in regret and shame as well.
Finally, Revelations 20:1-3
"And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season."
Another aspect of Hell is the fact it is infite in dimension, being a bottomless pit. Also note the vetical nature of what structuralization it might have. It is easy to assume from this that plenty of falling and catching might occur as one passes from one torture to the next in the ht, dark world of Hell.
