Because, if God didn't give you the ability to sin, then there wouldn't be much of a point in us being here, huh? You see, God wants us to choose to follow His rules of our volition (or burn in Hell for all eternity). If we don't have the ability to choose, then the whole plan is undermined.

To elaborate. Having free will and the potential of sin, makes devotion to God carry greater significance. If there were no free will and no sin, all you could do would devoted to God, just like a tree.
