Please pray for my boyfriend's dad

I'm very lucky to have a good Christian boyfriend who abides by God's law however his dad is a lost soul indeed. In the past two months he has tried to commit suicide twice and drinks far too much. Today after yet another suicide attempt he is checking into rehab for alcohal addiction.

As Christians you and I know that the only true rehabilitation comes from accepting Jesus into your heart as your savior. Let's pray that he comes to find the Lord so he can truly recover body and soul!

That is terrible news to hear. I am so sorry.

Be sure to have any new will you prepare for him signed before he is declared mentally incapacitated. Or better yet, perhaps your fiance can be given power of attorney, conservatorship, etc.

It would be terrible if this lost soul began giving money, etc., away to lie-beral causes.

Good advice! He is a staunch Republican so obviously still clings to some form of sanity however when drunk one is likely to do insane things like donate to the Sierra club, Greenpeace and the like . No one wants to see that happen!

If he's entering the early stages or Alzheimers or something (as donations like that can indicate), his guard may be down. Try to learn everything you can in order to care for him better...I mean, where valuables are stored, life insurance policy numbers, etc. Does he still have a line of credit? This is important.

I am sorry to say this, too, but donations to those fringe organizations can also indicate something is wrong with his brain. Could he have a tumor? Has he fallen and struck his head in any of his revels? Obviously he's someone who must be watched.

He had a stroke a couple years back which could account for some of the irratic behavior now. Also I think he is still depressed over his wife's death 5 years ago. She was a very devout Christian and no doubt helped keep him on the path of riteousness. I hope he can meet some new Christian friends to put him back on the right path but here in Seattle I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. Fortunatly when I was by his place of work today I peeked in his car and noticed a Bible on the front seat - not sure if it was KJV but it's a start.

Mistress Cookie has offered very sound advice and I suggest you follow it.

Before he croaks, I'd like to ask a question: Is there any way that you can establish an Iowa connection for the old boy?

If so, then we can probably probate the estate right here in my court to make sure everything gets resolved in a quick, easy, and mutually beneficial manner.

If not, perhaps you might consider shipping him here before he bites the bullet. We can plop him into the Freehold Short Term Care facility and I'll expedite an Iowa residency declaration. One or more of the Pastors will be nearby to assist in the paperwork to verify final wishes and make sure there aren't any nasty surprises involving unworthy bequests.
