Well, we can put an end to the speculation about why God's wrath has descended upon this school. A little Googling turned up this revolting item:

'The Muggle Academy' For Youngsters Modeled After Fictional Hogwarts School

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) ? About 10 kids with a passion for Harry Potter will get to play a "muggle" version of Quidditch this week at Northern Illinois University.

NIU is holding The Muggle Academy for junior high and high school students, an academic summer camp modeled after the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry featured in the wildly successful Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling. Muggle is Potter-speak for non-magical human.

Participants in the camp, which began Sunday, will be pitted against each other in Potter trivia contests, attend a Yule Ball and study four movies based on the books. They'll also be sorted into four houses, just like Harry and his friends, and play the game Quidditch, minus the floating broomsticks.

NIU faculty members and doctorate students Karley Adney and Caresse John came up with the idea after attending a symposium in Salem, Mass., about the Potter books' effect on culture.

"We want students to learn more about regular school subjects through the magical lens of the Harry Potter series," Adney said.

The camp runs through Friday.
