Well they grow up so fast. I just bought my boy, Beamer his first revolver. A pre-1890 Belgium pinfire. I figured I best start him off on something simple. Learning how to avoid having antiques explode in your hand is a paramount step to manhood.

Now here is where I ask, are there any seasoned veterans in this congregation who have sage wisdom to pass onto Beamer? Naming your gun for instance, sleeping with it by your side at night without setting off the trigger? Important details for a shaping young mind.


And I cannot express with restraint how proud I am as a father, and a Christian to see my son ascend to the next level of adulthood.

Brother, I am a Texan and a Christian and therefore an expert in firearms and their use, as well as most everything else as well.


This revolver is a pre-Browning Belgian firearm. The Belgians are actually Frenchmen and thus untrustworthy. A firearm built by Belgians without the direction of qualified Americans can be very dangerous and is likely to explode when fired.


Back in the days when Mexicans still lived in caves and Japan had not yet been trained atomically, Belgium was the place where manufacturers went for cheap labor. It was for that reason that the Browning brothers went to Belgium. There, they trained certain of the Belgians how to use screwdrivers and such and they were able to build the excellent Belgian Brownings we are familiar with today. However, do not mistake those weapons for Belgian firearms, as they are actually American.


My advice is to dispose of that revolver and obtain an honest American revolver. Since your son is young and just learning, I suggest a Colt Python .357 Magnum Revolver. Later, you can upgrade to a classic Colt .45. If the Python proves too pricy, a Smith and Wesson Model 19 .357 Magnum/.38 Special would also be very adequate for his needs.

You are correct brother, the Belgium arm was cheap, particularly for this tin-tither. Thankfully though, with President Trump's plan to bolster our workforce, Beamer can pick from the plethora of available jobs in the military and pay me back sometime for a new strong American gun.

Black men have a different view of the best type of pistol. We prefer an automatic pistol that shoots very many bullets. It is hard to hit targets with a pistol and so we like a lot of bullets. We hold our pistols sideways when we shoot and that makes it even harder to hit anything but we look very cool when we are shooting. Appearances can be very important.

Praise God, Brother Jim. I pictured your little guy, his weapon in hand, just about ready to shoot, and I just had to come write a reply. How proud you must be that he is now old enough to enjoy his gun, to shoot something real from it instead of blanks! I think your choice of something older was a good one.


I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but I have to admit I am a little backward when it comes to firearms. My papist parents wouldn't even get me a BB gun, and I don't think my father ever owned or shot one in his life. I think that's what made me more susceptible to the priests and deacons at Our Lady of Absolute Desolation and later at St. Dymphna of the Mentally Ill parishes. However, the male hormonics in me are strong, and I believe the best advice I can give is to sleep along side your son and his weapon. You might feel it poke you, which will likely wake you in enough time to prevent it from going off on you (and waking the boy, interrupting his important rest). I've always thought "Peter" a cute name for a pistol. One of the men at church calls his "Commie Killer," but he is of that generation where the Frigid War was still in full force.


A manly handshake and warm pat on your back, friend. I hope your son continues to please Jesus as he gets bigger and bigger. Do you think he will grow to be as big as you?

Responsible gun ownership and use isn't about thug/"gangstah" culture. Nor is it about "looking cool." (At least not the urban sort of cool, nor the Hollywood action movie sort.) It's about self-defense and the preservation and passing on of countryside traditions. Think John Wayne; think the camo-wearing outdoorsman. Forget Biggie Smalls or Snoopie Snoopie Dog or whoever the hell the big negro gangsters are.

I have not shot one single person since I have been in Babylon and I now live in a place where it is illegal to have a gun and also I am now a Democrat. So I do not even have a jammy. But I am also a member of Black Lives Matter so I may have to get one.

I can assure you, taking after his daddy, Beamer is a big boy, and the bed just ain't big enough for the both of us!

Personally, I find a revolver under the pillow to be lumpy and uncomfortable. In my home, we rely on our dog Spot, ill tempered brute that he is, to give us enough time to seize up our weaponry and deal with any intruders who are bold enough to continue on even after Spot has made his appearance.

I would urge your boy to start by generously oiling his weapon. He should hold it gently between two hands to impart body heat until it starts to warm up. Tell him not to go too fast at this stage, it is more about finding that heavy feeling in the hand.

As the metal gets to temperature, your boy can form an O-grip around the tip, just the finger and thumb. The diameter should be just a little too small for it to fit through - half the fun is letting the gun ease itself through despite its overly-large girth.

Make sure he enjoys a few moments lightly sliding his finger around the crevice toward the end of the shaft. A simple rotary motion is sufficient - again, let me impress on him not to agitate vigorously yet.

As his passion for the weapon increases, he can let his O-grip loosen and pass all the way down the shaft. Up and down, up and down. Adding one or two more fingers to the grip will surely be appreciated at this stage.

A particular novelty when oiling my own guns is to form a full grip around the tip and then rolling the wrist. Splitting the fingers makes it all the more effective.

At this point, your boy is ready to put in some elbow grease. The easiest way to reach a satisfying polish is to work the tip of the shaft. When aiming for a high quality finish, never grip onto the end itself, which is a delicate machine part, instead grip below the tip - maybe 1" to 1.5" back depending on caliber. From this vantage, the boy can go hog wild with his speed and depth of stroke.

At the end of the event, your boy might wonder if he is to let go of the shaft or keep pounding on it. He should not let go but he should switch to a very slow stroke with more of a squeezing motion. It is common to feel dirty at this point and disgusted with yourself. He might for example feel like he's a failure with a puny caliber piece and no ability to use it on anyone. Don't worry, that's normal Christian thoughts.

Let me know and I'll see if I can send someone over if he has trouble with any of this. It's difficult given my situation of not being allowed into the US but we could work something out. A photo of the piece and the boy would help a lot.
