    hello

    Hi I'm Bert from Belgium
Since I haven't been here for a while I'll introduce myself.
I'm 17 years old, I live in Belgium (tiny country in Europe)
I finished a degree in maths/economics and go to university next year.
I am an atheist(well not really an atheist but something like it If you want the details ask me - maybe we can have a debate about it)
If anyone wonders my native language is Dutch, I also speak a decent French and a little German.

by the way why is this very post discriminatory ? No women allowed ? I though according to you god created everyone equal.

Anyway I hope to get some (calm non-rattling) response(s).

    Thanks in advance
some people ask: why would a perfect god create a universe with so much misery and danger?
I think that have missed a greater enigma..., why would a perfect god create a universe ... at all?

    Yes, let's discuss it.
Just WHY are you an atheist? Why don't you want to believe in God?
(Cause that's all there is to it, you simply doesn't LIKE the idea of a God)

    Certainly NOT!
Where did you hear such nonsense?
You haven't read the Holy Bible much have you?

      Re: hello

I do want to believe in a god, I just can't.
You see I'm a strange kind atheist, I don't worship/believe anything (yet), because I just don't know if their is a god even listening, and even if there was how could anyone ever prove it to me.
I'm a bit of a scientist on that mater - accept what you can check. I'm open for the Idea that there might be something though and if anyone can show me 100% that they are right I might consider staring to believe, but not because somebody simply tells me it's there or some old book written a thousand years ago says so (It's like that with 99% off al religions and none of them convince me).

quote: "Cause that's all there is to it, you simply doesn't LIKE the idea of a God"

And quite on the contrary SalvationSeeker I wouldn't only like the idea that there could be something watching over me I would LOVE it, but I just can't accept that without any proof.

Some people ask : why would a perfect god create a universe so full of danger and peril?
well I think they have overlooked an even greater mystery : Why would a perfect god, create a universe at all?

        You're fooling yourself.
WHY would you really need any proof?
If you cannot believe in God, even if you want, that only goes to prove that Satan is opressing you:
Thus giving you all the proof of God's existance you could ever want.

And there is proof everywhere actually.. and just how do you think the universe came to be?
Don't give me that "big bang" crap either, cause it requires that something can actually come from nothing without any reason whatsoever..
And anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence know that such things just doesn't happen!

I'm a bit of a scientist on that mater - accept what you can check.
Nonsense. Scientists doesn't even have proof for 1% of all their wild claims!

And quite on the contrary SalvationSeeker I wouldn't only like the idea that there could be something watching over me I would LOVE it, but I just can't accept that without any proof.
As I said above, you're fooling yourself now.

Some people ask : why would a perfect god create a universe so full of danger and peril?
well I think they have overlooked an even greater mystery : Why would a perfect god, create a universe at all?
Why would a perfect God NOT create such a universe?
Are you wise enough to know His ways, or to pass judgement?
Can you even understand your OWN way? No, and if you think so, you're fooling yourself.

You lack modesty, since you believe that God needs to prove Himself to you:
He doesn't. But you need to prove yourself to HIM.

BTW Jesus doesn't play games, friend.. I suggest you do the same.

How backwards are the Belgians? In a civilised country, you go to university to get a degree, not the other way round. How many years has it been since you stopped drawing your pension?
by the way why is this very post discriminatory ? No women allowed ? I though according to you god created everyone equal.
You thought wrong. Very wrong. According to GOD, he created women from Adam's rib. That's not a good foundation for a relationship of equals.
Anyway I hope to get some (calm non-rattling) response(s).
Calm and non-rattling? You're headed on the fast-track to HELL, and being rattled right off it is your only hope!
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

So, Bert, you are back again. I remember you from your last encounter with the GODLY Landover Baptist community. As I recall, you sent some pictures of a horrid place near a river that looked like Siberia and claimed to live in the town. THEN you denied that Belgium was part of France. Is this the same Bert?

From my geography classes, I recall that Belgium is a state of France, kind of like North Dakota. Their chief exports are waffles, tiny cabbages, and blasphemy.

                Re: hello

Ok, I'm kinda tired of these jokes about my country. YES it's tiny , but it's not certainly a part of France. Well it's as much a part of France as the states is a part of Canada.

Belgium, which accounts for less than 0,2% of the world population and has a market share of 3,4% of exports and 3% of imports, is ranked tenth for international trade in goods.

Approximately 20% of Belgians exports is comprised of consumer goods. Intermediate goods account for about 60%. These are mainly machines and equipment, accounting for over 28% of exports, and chemical and allied products accounting for almost 22%.

Approximately 95% of the 900,000 cars manufactured by Volvo, Opel, Volkswagen and Ford in Belgium are exported. They account for almost 15% of Belgian exports. Plastics account for over 3%, pharmaceutical products and organic chemical products represent about 5% each. Metals (iron and steel, non ferrous metals and processed metal products) make up over 4% and food stuffs constitute almost 9%.

Belgium is the world's largest exporter of diamonds

Belgium is the world leader in terms of export per capita and can justifiably call itself the 'world's largest exporter'.

Then about the educational system : The US ain't the world you know
We go to school from the age of 3 till 18 in the last 6 years you can specialize in just about anything(so I chose economics firs and then continued in maths). After that you can go to university. I think we also have the largest number of universities per capita (we have 5 universities for 10 million people).
And the fact I speak 4 languages at 17, proves that the system works

OK after that boring part about Belgium back to the main discussion.

first I think religion should be about love, compasion and a guideline for how to live togehether peacefully(if a religion is based on unequality then well I don't hink that's any good - you'll probably disagree with me but hey I'm here to spark a discussion).

                secondly

quote: "WHY would you really need any proof?

well I've seen nothing to believe there is a god, whould you believe me that you are a donkey if I just told you you where?
No of course not! And if I rwote a book saying that you are ? I don't think so...

If he's almighty why doesn't he just kill "satan" as you call him/it/whatever,

quote: "If you cannot believe in God, even if you want, that only goes to prove that Satan is opressing you"

I would like the idea, just like I would like that the idea that the whole world is at peace, but it's not! Or at least not that I know of.
You see I would like the idea but I can't believe it before somebody actualy can show me(witch nobody can). Ok this might be a bad comparison but you get my point.

quote: ".. and just how do you think the universe came to be?"

Well that's a very good question. But a God doesn't solve that problem does it. Who created God then ? It's an endless cycle isn't it if A created B who created A?

At least the bog bang theory breaks it down to one singular point (witch is actualy more in support of a "divine intervention" then against it)

And please do not insult me again. I know I'm like "unsaved thrash" or something to you, but please refrain from foul language to me or my country. I'm as proud of my country as u are of yours.

Ok I know this i a long post may the lord be with you plowing through this

PS: My mother language ain't English so if there are any mistakes I apologize.

some people ask: why would a perfect god create a universe with so much misery and danger?
I think that have missed a greater enigma..., why would a perfect god create a universe ... at all?

How can a religion be based on equality? God is omnipotent, omniscient, and Almighty; we are not. It doesn't get much less equal than that.

You may be able to talk at a few billion people, but can any of them understand you?
