And, assuming that you have read the book that you describe as not worth quoting, where in its pages are we told to "interpret it freely"? How can you refer to something as "his Word" and "pointless" in literally the same sentence?


If we are going to be all that "free" in our "interpretation" and "understanding" then aren't we really just working with our own words, and not those of some specific deity whose so-called holy word is pointless?


If you want to follow your own judgments and ethical standards, then no one can stop you. Just admit that they are your own. Insisting that they come from God's "Word" is silly, if everything contained within those writings will be filtered through your personal perspective.
