Don't Watch "The Sound of Music"

The Sound of Music is one of the most famous musicals of all time. This makes it especially dangerous to world order. Here's why.

The Sound of Music's message is, "It's good to defy authority. Ordinary people know better than their leaders." The kind of society envisioned in that musical is one of complete chaos. It starts when Maria goes to a convent. She breaks the convent's rules by seducing a wealthy man. Then the wealthy husband is asked to serve his country by a popular national leader. Instead of serving the leader, the man, his harlot wife and the children all escape the country.

The kind of behavior depicted in The Sound of Music is especially harmful just now when several great leaders have emerged on the world scene. Our own is Donald Trump. There is Putin in Russia and Kim Jong Un in North Korea. These leaders need a public that is not going off in its own direction.

Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

For a moment I tough that the title was referring to a similar song, The Sound of Muslims:

Oh dear, I've actually got a copy of it and learned about half the songs. We were going to do a presentation and already have the fabric! (Some of it's left over from an earlier thing we assembled ourselves using material from Kurt Weill and Cole Porter, both of whom co-opted some rather dubious themes.) Anyway I'm half way through the goatherd song and wondered if the Austrian thing could be improved on, perhaps by the English? Well, the costumes are improved but otherwise the BBC have not rehabilitated this piece. What should I do?
