Twilight: Breaking Dawn moviegoers suffer seizures during birth scene
With many mixed reviews of the long-awaited arrival of Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, not only has the film undergone some serious criticism, but it is also a health hazard. According to several news outlets, the film’s birth scene has caused seizure-like convulsions in audience members at more than one screening.
Since it’s release earlier this month that had thousands of starry-eyed, swooning fans lined up for days for the premiere, there have been multiple cases reported of convulsive fits during the birth scene of Renesmee, the hybrid human-vampire baby of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.
Define it as you will — Edward performs a bloody, graphic C-section with his fangs on his beloved Bella to deliver their vampire offspring — supposedly an act of heroism, but perhaps unfavourable for viewers with weak stomachs. Aside from being just plain gross, it is reported that the strobing of red, black and white lights during the particular sequence is something known to trigger seizures in susceptible individuals.
“When the birthing scene came on the screen, [my husband] started mumbling and he was blinking on and off with his eyes at that point. I was kneeling in front of him slapping his face,” a Utah woman reported to Salt Lake City’s ABC 4 News.
“I didn’t really remember what happened after that. I think I blacked out. According to her, I was shaking and mumbling different noises,” said the husband.
The scene, which has been described as “intense” and “violent,” has also triggered similar reactions in California, where a man was reportedly rushed to the hospital after viewing it.
