Democrats study facts, Republicans like fiction

Why is it that the shows watched by democrats are all about becoming informed citizens, while republicans watch fiction, unless we're watching other people dancing or other people losing weight? My theory: democrats don't have The Bible to inform them about what's happening in the world today. Then they make a futile effort to compensate for their ignorance by "studying current events", instead of Trusting In The LORD.

In red: what republicans watch. in Blue: what democrats watch. In bold: non-fiction.

"The top-ten Republican-tilted shows are "The Office," "Rules of Engagement," "The Mentalist," "New Yankee Workshop," "The Big Bang Theory," "Castle," "Desperate Housewives," "Dancing With The Stars," "The Biggest Loser," and "Grey's Anatomy." The top ten most Democratic-leaning shows are "Washington Week," "Tavis Smiley," "Late Show with David Letterman," "The View," "PBS NewsHour," "NOW" on PBS, "House of Payne," "ABC World News Now," "60 Minutes" and "Insider Weekend."

I'm not sure if talk shows like Tavis Smily and David Letterman count as non-fiction, they make jokes about news, and then interview real people about irrelevant things. However, if watching people dance and lose weight count as nonfiction, I might as well count talk shows also.

While I don't disagree with you I must ask, how does the bible tell what's happening now? It's written in the past tense meaning its events have already happened.

You know Ezekiel, whenever I post something you're always right behind to tell me I'm "going to hell" then you bring in a verse from your precious little book because you can't think of any reasons yourself. If you really have nothing better to do than force your extremist views and beliefs onto a teen-age boy, then you're truly a pitiful soul.

Then your father isn't a Christian. Beat your children hard and often is what God commands. Don't worry about hurting them. You may break a few bones and cause some brain damage, but it isn't going to kill them. And even if they do die, they'll be better off. They'll thank you in heaven for beating the hell out of them. That's what God commands.

Not all of it. There are a lot of verses talking about future events. Unless you think that a dragon has already swiped a third of the stars from the sky?

But I see your question.

Look at it this way. The Bible is all we got from God. There's no version 2.0, no updates, nothing but the Bible. But obviously God knew that some people reading it would be reading it after it was written - long enough after that some of the events may not seem to directly affect them. But obviously scripture is meant to be timeless - Matthew 5:18

The key is in - and I could be wrong here so I hope one of the True Christians will swoop in and correct me if so - 2 Timothy 3:16 which reads:

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

ALL SCRIPTURE

I'm reading Chronicles at the moment. Its a fairly interesting read and actually one of my favourite books (counting 1 & 2 Chronicles as one book for the purpose of this throwaway point.) But it can be difficult to see how it can be used "for instruction in righteousness".

The point to remember though is what the Bible doesn't mention. It's entirely possible that David had a court musician who dressed flamboyantly. They're not mentioned in the Bible though as they wouldn't be profitable for doctrine usw. They should be ignored, in other words. So, nowadays, the Lady Gagas should be ignored.

The Bible doesn't give a blow for blow account of what's going on today, of course it doesn't. It's not a press ticker. What it gives us is a guide to what it important in what's going on today - following God's word - and what is unimportant - everything else.

Democrats don't have this guidance. They don't know what's important, what's right, what's "profitable". Hey, they don't even have a moral code! And they know they are missing something. So they flail around with news programs and documentaries searching for something to replace the guidance of God that they hate enough to pretend is non-existant.
