Aids is just the result of the HIV family and similar viruses.
Actually during the phase of primo infectivity the virus is present in the blood only in very low ammounts (it can take up to 6 weeks for the virus to actually show up in exam results). That's why in some case theres blood packs actually containing an invisible quantity of HIV.
This quantity is small right, so normally your imune system just kills it off right away. But in case of heavy transfusion, heavy surgery, where we do use liters of blood, if by bad luck you happen to get two or three packs of that stealthly infected blood, theres a good chance to actually get aids.
