Thank you for your advice. However, the letter to Romans is quite long; could you possibly be more specific and point me to a particular chapter and verse of it?

Some of the main points in this letter seem to be:

    1) Paul's hate towards homosexuality (Romans 1:26-27) for which people deserve to die (Romans 1:32).

    2) Paul's belief that God weighs more heavily the good and bad deeds of Jews than of non-Jews (Romans 2:9-10).

    3) Paul's views on circumcision, which seem to be a bit complicated (Romans 2:25-29, 3:1-2, 30-31, 4:9-12).

    4) Paul's view that baptism and faith in God, not good deeds, are what guarantee eternal life (Romans 6:1-23, 8:1-2); I guess that means that good people do go to Hell.

    5) Prohibition of divorce (Romans 7:2-3), which is the most commonly broken of all God's commandments, by Christians of all denominations.

    6) A convoluted discussion about sin (Romans 7:1-25) - I admit that I had to consult a few other translations besides KJV because I have no idea where Paul is coming from nor going to with all this. He seems to believe that non-Jews have no understanding what is good and what is sin; the Jewish law defines what sin is, but also creates temptation to sin; therefore, all non-Jews are sort of savages who live happily without any morals whatsoever. An interesting view, albeit a bit, uh, naive and extremely ethnocentric from an anthropological point of view.

    7) The idea of predestination (Romans 8:29-30), which means that God hates some people since the moment of their conception (Romans 9:10-13). Of course, God is God, so He has the right to hate whomever He wants, and we have no right to judge Him (Romans 9:14-15, 18).

    8) Paul defends his position as the apostle of the gentiles (Romans 11:13).

    9) Paul asks Christians to love each other (Romans 12:10), and also to be as nice as possible to non-Christians (Romans 12:18).

    10) Paul asks to obey secular laws (Romans 13:1-8). Therefore, it seems that people who fought for civil rights and such are going to Hell, because they disagreed with and fought against laws which they saw as unjust - but Paul says, that all powers come from God (Romans 13:1) - I guess that includes people like Hitler, Stalin, Franco, and Pinochet, too.

    11) Paul believes that Christians should be vegetarians (Romans 14:21).

Surprisingly, Paul does not use this particular letter to express his hate towards women and smart people - the two things which he does so explicitly in letters to Corinthians.

I'm still not sure, though, how does this letter relate to the question I have asked you?

It does seem like this site's mission is to turn people, at least any normal person with human decency, away from God.
I'm afraid I do not understand. Are you suggesting that sharing the Word of God is somehow bad or something?

It's not gonna happen here. And yes I've read the Bible many times, all of it, OT included.
Did you read it with open mind, though - allowing you to overcome the biases induced by your parents/teachers/pastors?

Most of this has already been answered, but I'm particularly drawn to the bit about the mercy of God. Since you seem to have some weird aversion towards the OT (I guess you have forgotten to read Matthew 5:17), I'll cite just from the NT for ya, sweetie.

    Matthew 10:34-35
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

    Luke 12:51-53
51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

Luke 19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

    2 Thessalonians 2:11-12
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

This is just a small selection of NT verses about God's wrath. What was that that you were saying about His mercy, again...?

Oh, I will not throw stones at you - you see, I used to be like you. I believed what the priests (I grew up in Catholic faith) were saying about God's love. However, before Confirmation, I've decided to read the Bible - all of it, not just these few carefully picked verses they repeat during the Mass. Then I realized that God of both Testaments is cruel and merciless. He wanted his followers to kill heathens then and He seemingly enjoyed the slaughter of His enemies ever since. Just look at all of the religious wars and oppression of people done in His name. No other god has ever claimed more human sacrifices than the Christian God.

God of the Bible apparently enjoys all of that slaughter. Reading the Bible and studying the history of religions have shaken my own faith; sometimes I wonder if God is even real, and if He is, is He even worthy of our worship?

What I admire the most about this lovely congregation, is that they know how cruel God of the Bible is, and yet find Him worthy of their worship. I do hope that studying their faith will help me regain my own.

First of all, this is NOT a debate forum. We're right and you're wrong, according to Jesus and the Holy Word of God. Please read THIS thread before making an even bigger fool of yourself.

Secondly, while the internets might seem to be "free" to you, this particular corner of the internets is a privately owned Christian forum. The rights you have on this forum are listed HERE. Please contact a Pastor immediately if you feel that any of your rights have been violated.

Finally, your unsaved opinions or tantrums are not even slightly of interest to us. We follow the Holy Word of God TO THE LETTER, and make no apologies for that. Provoke readers into an emotional response? See Psalm 119:165 again. Disrupting "normal on-topic discussion"? Welcome to .

That might work with the FSM but Jesus seems somewhat more strict in His teachings.
*braces for the stones that will be thrown her way*.
As per Leviticus 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well as the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.

I´m sorry but it doesn´t seem Christians who won´t follow the Bible will get an easy pass.

Asking questions for clarification for the claims you make isn't throwing stones, dear. It's simply a means by which one can determine if there is any credibility to your statements. Thus far, you have provided none. Please don't confuse your inability to support your beliefs with persecution.

    Moving on...

What's wrong with following the first, oh say, 2/3 of the Holy Word of God? What's wrong with recognizing the LORD of the New Testament is the very same LORD of the Old Testament? What's wrong with respecting Jesus' very own mission statement (Matthew 5:17)? Can you please show us from where in the Holy Bible you get the idea that "a lot of the Old Testament was meant to be taken as a metaphor"? I'd like to know if I'm worshiping the Lord incorrectly, as I would hate to offend Him. I would also like to know how you have come to understand the Real Gospel Message which has apparently, according to your argument, been completely lost by 2000 years of history, only to be uncovered by you, an unknown Christian whose unfamiliarity with what is actually written in the Holy Bible is painfully obvious to those who are familiar with it.
