You are right. It does sound cruel. God is not dull and one-sided. His aspects are many, and the fearsome and - let us admit it - cruel face of His is revealed to the sinning world in due course. The prophets knew this:

Isaiah 13:9
Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

Some false Christians will claim that this is all Old Testament stuff, that it was cancelled by Jesus and His temporary sacrifice. That is NOT so. When Jesus comes again very very soon, His cruelty and Wrath will be even more magnificent, wonderful, powerful, intimidating. Immediately upon His return, one third of the World's population will be killed.

And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

There are cruel words but they can lead to Salvation and with them we can avoid the cruel acts of Jesus lest them befall upon us!

For instance, there are descriptions of cities that have been confirmed with archeology. See also Genesis 10:11.

2. There is the testimony of us True Christians™. Our lives have been changed and these wonderful, awesome changes are consistent with SCRIPTURE! See also Luke 1:47.

3. Look at the prophecies in the Bible. They HAVE BEEN FULFILLED!! Daniel Chapter 2 predicted the Roman empire and much more. For reference, see Daniel 2:34.

4. There is a unique and miraculously consistent nature of manuscripts of the Bible during a time when there was only illiteracy, unreliable greedy scribes and slow methods of communication. See also Psalms 12:6.

5. There is a prerequisite of God for secular logic and science. In science, the satanic concept of evil lotion embraced by atheists, cat licks and false Christians gives absolutely no possibility of a mind that could be trusted at all. How could quantum fluctuations in the alleged spacetime produce a mind that could RELIABLY examine anything?! If evilootion were true, we would not be able to trust anything.
