Given that adeptus is the masculine nominative form of a past participle in Latin and Astartes is the genitive form of a feminine noun in Greek (I am sure one of our more scholarly Christians will correct me if I am wrong on this), I have a strong feeling that all "theories" as to its meaning are wrong. It is a name made up by the illiterati.
