Well, I don't pretend to understand why that should have upset him - should he have said colored folk(s) or just coloreds? And given his principles, if you can call them that, why did he not just resolve the problem by retroactively self-identifying as a colored person? They're allowed to call themselves whatever they like (which is "just so unfair!" as he would put it).

OK, I see a path for you, then. The methodology you are describing here is known as "cultural resource management" (CRM), which basically boils down to testing whether there are any archaeological remains on private-owned grounds where some construction is being planned. The advantages of being a CRM archaeologist over an academic archaeologist are multiple:

(1) You earn much more money than academic archaeologists - who, as university employees, work for peanuts.
(2) You earn even more money if you don't find any archaeological remains - or, if your report says so, regardless of the actual findings.
(3) You don't have to be careful, actually, you don't want to be careful, especially since your ultimate goal is to prove that there are no significant archaeological remains.
(4) You don't have to spend months in the field, as they pay you to be done with your report very quickly.
(5) You don't have to spend months in the lab analyzing the remains, as the whole point of your work is to prove that there aren't any.
(6) You don't have to teach, which means you don't interact with ignorant spoiled brats undergraduate students.

I'm told that a lot of the first semester is devoted to basic literacy skills.
