I hate to sound like a meanie-head but that biblical god IS fear-giving and hate bringing. These people only follow the bible.
As a pagan I'm here to debate with em, but one thing I can't argue with is that they do follow the bible as it was originally intended to be followed. Which doesn't say a whole lot for it, I'm afraid...

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

And here's a lovely bit on the biblical god's view on killing a whole town if they pray to someone else:
