I'm currently attending a presbyterian (the less said about that the better) college down in Florida and recently found this wonderful site. I have yet to find a good Baptist Church close by as I've only lived in the area for about three months (perhaps someone could recommend one?).

My favorite verse is
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
Deuteronomy 31:6

I was once a godless heathen dabbling in all sorts of ridiculous things like buddhism and even trying to be a Wiccan
I also suffered from severe depression and finally, in 2007, at the age of 15 I could no longer handle it and tried to take my own life. As I waited for the pills to kick in I felt the strongest urge to go and look at the bible I was given as a small child. I opened to a random page and found my now favorite bible quote. Deuteronomy 31:6.
I then began to pray, asking God to please make my pain go away. Within moments I FELT something fill me inside, fill the empty space in my soul. Needless to say I did not die that night and I spent the next three years, and will hopefully spend the rest of my life, sharing the miracles of God's love.

Hello Mr. Lamb, welcome to God's Favorite Forum™.

That was indeed some powerful testimony and it is great to see you have repented of your horrible past and found the Lord!

However, you do seem to be quoting from the NIV, which is a false perversion of God's Word. If you truly want to get to Heaven you need to read the KJV Bible and follow it to the letter. You can find a copy of it online here.

You can find a list of Baptist churches in Florida here. I wasn't able to narrow down the search for you as I am unaware exactly where in Florida you are. Make sure to check and see that they are using the right Bible too!

Hmm, it seems the only way I can reply to you is through this posting. I tried the private messaging and it informed me that I do not have permission to access that feature. Why is that? I've looked through the FAQ and I can't seem to find the answer to this.

That would be because you're not a forum member yet. So many hateful atheists and Godmockers register here that those features are disabled until you prove to the admins that you are on the path of True Christianity™. Just keep praising the Lord and you will get there before you know it.

Amen! I love Deuteronomy 31, especially later in the chapter when God shows up in front of everyone and speaks to them all.

I wish He would do that more these days.

Oh my, this is so amazing, my oldest son works at USF, (Administrative), and his wife also works there, (Chris & Brandy), and all three of us are on FB, It is so wonderful to find someone that loves to do community work, America needs more people like you, there's not enough people that want to help the ones in need.

We are not here to help "ones in need." We are here to worship God, to exalt him, to recognize the sacrifice of his son, Jesus, and to get to Heaven.

Kindly refer to the 10 Commandments. The first several refer to our obligations to God and the remainder to obligations to society. "Help the lazy" is not among them. Kindly focus your thoughts, and your postings here, on worshiping the Lord, instead of wasting time making facebook friends and focusing on how to redistribute tax money to shftles welfare cheats.

You are correct all the way to the community help part, community help is not welfare at all, it's a group of people that volenteer their time to help the disabled for example, or help pass out food to the homeless in one of very many "soup kitchens" in St. Petersburg Fla. and other things, but you are deffinately correct with the fact that we should not help others that don't help themselves first, ie welfare cheats, but not everyone is a welfare cheat, sad though that the ones that are, ruin it for the rest.

Nobody in America is THAT poor unless as a result of their own acts (drugs, AIDS, etc.). The best way to help the poor is to bring them to Jesus. James 2:5. The Bible commands us to help the poor in spirit to come to faith.

Give away your money to the lazy and the weak if you want to; I'll not stop you. But if your're not preaching the word of Jesus when you do so, you are missing the major point. Focus on giving them a rich afterlife. Otherwise you are wasting your time and your money.

Oh I agree with that Alex, I would never give my money to the lazy, disabled yes, the lazy no, and yes preaching the word of Jesus is a good intro to being a responsable person, Jesus also teaches responsability and the importance of work. But what you did Alex is you confused or related community service for welfare, two totally different things, that's all, community service is a wonderful thing, it brings the volenteer out into the real word that involves helping the ones that do need it, but welfare, is the path to hell for many, because it makes too many people lazy, God hates the lazy people, and God hates the ones that stand by and let the weak fall, please do not confuse kindness with foolishness. Ignoring the helpless is a sin.
