Lapsed Christian thinking of returning to the fold.

Hi all,

I'm a lapsed Christian and I'm thinking about before returning to the Church. I turned my back a young teenager, but lately, after doing some voluntary work with orphans, I'm thinking about returning to my old church.

But every time I try to walk in, I see a lot faces from the past. It fills me with dread and I bottle it every time. I could go to another church, I suppose, but it's where I grew up, and it I have many happy memories as a child there.

Does anyone have some advice?

Hello, Jeremy. Thank you for your question.

First of all, there is a problem with your terminology. There is no such thing as a "lapsed Christian" -- there are only "wasn't really saved in the first place" Christians. What you experienced was a false conversion. Praise God you recognized it in time.

As far as your old church goes, I don't know enough about it to make a recommendation. What version of the Bible does that church use? Do the people shout "Amen!" during the sermon? Does the pastor present a feel-good message to tickle folks' ears, or does He present the true Gospel and warn folks about the very real danger of Hellfire.

I'm praying that the Holy Ghost will convict you of your sins, so that you can get saved for real.

My last post seems to have been lost somewhere!!! I was thanking the Pastor for his advice about the troll. I'm fairly new to the Internet. Computers aren't really my thing. I prefer a good tennon saw, a sharp chisel and a sharp wit.

I was saying that I'm in England, CoE (Church of England) and I'm not sure the Bible translation (I think it's St. James)

The last church I went to the congregation where all shouting during the sermon, and we had to hug (even other men) complete strangers at one point. I found it all.... uneasy...

The Church I grew up in was so different. It was serious, and manners where everything. We would file in, take our place in the pew, bow for prayers, stand for Psalms and Hymns, and be silent during the Sermon. We'd file out and pay respect to the Reverend.

It's all so different now...

It's like the respect has gone. I suppose it's a reflection on our society. I have my own personal demons about my old Church, but it's where I grew and it's what I know.


Even the Reverend was "like you know, with it, and down with the kids"

Are they all part of a huge Cult like the Cattlickers?
