Greetings, My Sisters and Brothers In Christ

I found this site as I was researching my next sermon regarding the mortal versus venial sins. My name is Cardinal Dario Fungi. I am a retired Cardinal in the Holy Roman Catholic Church, but I still sometimes give the odd sermon or two. My favorit verse is 1st Macabees 1:60:

At which time according to the commandment they put to death certain women, that had caused their children to be circumcised.
I am pleased to meet you.
    Peace Be With You,

    Cardinal (Ret.) Dario Fungi

Great, now do you have a favorite verse from the BIBLE?

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:" Revelation 22:18

I am pleased to meet you.
I'll be pleased when you decide to sever all links to the papacy and your Mary-worship.
"Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him." So how many children did you molest as a cardinal?

Also, your "Bible verse" doesn't seem to exist in the KJV1611 scripture, the one true word of God. I suggest you throwout that papist doorstop you've been reaading and purchase a real Holy Bible.

"And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him."

That isn't a true bible, just papist garbage filled with the lies of satan. The True Christian Bible, KJV1611 holds the true word of God. Papists shoehorn books made by pagans, satanists, and muslims into their bible so they can justify their belief in ungodly ideas such as purgatory and pedophilia.

Ah, James. One of my Favorite books. I am not sure how you apply it here, though, Sister.

Actually it is YOU folk who have changed God's word. A little history lesson may be in order.

At the time the Christian Bible was being formed, a Greek translation of Jewish Scripture, the Septuagint, was in common use and Christians adopted it as the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. However, around 100 A.D., Jewish rabbis revised their Scripture and established an official canon of Judaism which excluded some portions of the Greek Septuagint. The material excluded was a group of 15 late Jewish books, written during the period 170 B.C. to 70 A.D., that were not found in Hebrew versions of the Jewish Scripture. Christians did not follow the revisions of Judaism and continued to use the text of the Septuagint as the Old Testament.

In the 1500s, Protestant leaders decided to organize the Old Testament material according to the official canon of Judaism rather than the Septuagint. They moved the Old Testament material which was not in the Jewish canon into a separate section of the Bible called the Apocrypha. So, Protestant Bibles then included all the same material as the earlier Bible, but it was divided into two sections: the Old Testament and the Apocrypha. Protestant Bibles included the Apocrypha until the mid 1800s, and the King James Version was originally published with the Apocrypha. However, the books of the Apocrypha were considered less important, and the Apocrypha was eventually dropped from most Protestant editions. The books of the Apocrypha are also known as the deuterocanonical books.

The Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches did not follow the Protestant revisions, and they continue to base their Old Testament on the Septuagint. The result is that these versions of the the Bible have more Old Testament books than most Protestant versions. Catholic Old Testaments include 1st and 2nd Maccabees, Baruch, Tobit, Judith, The Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach (Ecclesiasticus), additions to Esther, and the stories of Susanna and Bel and the Dragon which are included in Daniel. Orthodox Old Testaments include these plus 1st and 2nd Esdras, Prayer of Manasseh, Psalm 151 and 3rd Maccabees.
So it seems YOU are the ones to have picked and chosen the parts of God's word you like and don't like. We Catholics have withstood the test of time.
            Peace Be With You,

            Cardinal (Ret.) Dario Fungi

King James's Bible: perhaps the greatest work of translation ever

How could a committee have produced such sublime language?

I can’t be the only English-speaker who suspects, deep down, that the Almighty expressed Himself in the language of the Authorised Version. Even now, I do a double-take when I listen to a biblical passage in another tongue. I struggled to repress a chuckle the other day when I heard Matthew 5:5 rendered as “Bienheureux sont les débonnaires; car ils hériteront la terre.”
Yesterday, the Queen reminded us that her ninth-great-grandfather, James VI & I, had commissioned the translation in the hope of impressing a measure of unity on the various theological currents then swirling about Britain... <original article in the Telegraph here>

It is not part of the official KJV1611 scripture and therefore is not the true word of god. That image is not of a KJV1611 Bible, but a sinfully inferior unofficial version that happened to be made around the same time.

                  From the Cardinal's post:

I assume when they say "originally" they mean 1611. So when did you guys start to ignore that part of the Bible?

Actually, the word is originally Greek (ἀπόκρυφα) and means "those having been hidden away". Specifically, ἀπόκρυφα is the neuter plural of ἀπόκρυφος, a participle derived from the verb ἀποκρύπτω [infinitive: ἀποκρύπτειν], "to hide something away." The word "apocryphal" (ἀπόκρυφος) was first applied, in a positive sense, to writings which were kept secret because they were the vehicles of esoteric knowledge considered too profound or too sacred to be disclosed to anyone other than the initiated. In otherwords, the most Holy of God's words.

It is not part of the official KJV1611 scripture and therefore is not the true word of god.
At the time the Protestants removed these Holy Books from the Bible, how did they know they were, in your words, "the works of sinners and not by [sic] God?" You all seem to say that you look to the Bible to decide everything. Well, if you were alive at the time, what in the Holy Bible A book which had been around for at LEAST 1500 years at the time, would have told you that the Apocrypha were NOT of God?
                    Peace Be With You,

O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

Sorry, I drifted off there. I have had a long research career. These two categories of sin are explicitly to be found in Sacred Scripture. In the Old Covenant there were sins that merited the death penalty and sins that could be expiated by an offering. This Law was a teacher that prepared the way for the faith (Gal. 3:24). In the New Covenant these material categories are replaced by spiritual ones, natural death by eternal death. There are thus daily faults for which we must daily ask forgiveness (Mt. 6:12), for even the "just man falls seven times a day" (Prov. 24:16), and mortal faults that separate the sinner from God (1 Cor. 6:9-10) for all eternity.

I could go on, but it is time for my pills.

That Proverbs quote is from the OT. It's about people who have not yet been Saved by Christ's Sacrifice. Different rules apply if you have. There's only special kind of sin discussed in the Holy Bible, and that's blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32). As for the rest, I refer you to quote Lycia posted above.
