I have joined this community because of a fervent desire to be born again. Though I have studied the Bible, I have never felt the on-rush of GOD's love like my friends have. I come here for help and understanding.
I tell you this because I want you to understand I am ernest with my question. I want to share in your learning and your salvation.
I read the now closed thread "Pastor's Rules and Announcements" with the helpful guideline "'Noobs' please read this before posting." Though I agreed and understood most of the injunctions, I was hoping for some clarification on the post by Jeb Thurmond stating that people of African origin are "best segregated."
I am confused, because he quotes a verse of The Bible out of context, and the full text of The Bible does not seem to support his conclusion of the sinfulness of people of African origin.
To quote Mr Thurmond;
'What about interracial/intercultural marriage?
God commands us against them:
[Scripture] Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. - Deuteronomy 7:3 '
Though I have yet to be reborn, I know The Bible, I have studied it long in hopes to feel oneness with GOD. In Mr Thurmond's quotation, the 'them' in question does not refer to people of African origin, but rather those who do not believe in the True God.
[Scripture] When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. -Deuteronomy 1-3
I'd like some clarification.
I understand this verse of scripture as an injunction against marrying people of untrue and pagan faiths, but Mr Thurmond seems to understand it as an injunction against marrying people who are from Africa.
I look to be reborn and respect the faith and strength of your community, but I seek clarification on this issue because I am close friends with a woman who is 7th generation African and whose faith in The Bible and GOD I admire greatly.
I anxiously await your response and your aid and inspiration.
