When the church has gone astray the Lord has rebuked and disciplined it many times. I love this verse because it proves the point.

Clearly there are different opinions on the subject of wife submission. I can not claim to be more enlightened than Phyllis Shlafly or wait_what here. My personal view is that our marriages are a vital part of our lives. How we conduct ourselves is an example for our children and the people around us. I see my wife as my partner.

Only recently the president of the Islamic Sharia Council in Britain, Sheikh Maulana Abu Sayeed said that rape is "impossible" in marriage because "when they got married, the understanding was that sexual intercourse was part of the marriage" and "so long as the woman is his wife, it cannot be termed as rape".

The purpose of this forum is not for spreading the words of the confused pedophile Mohammed, but I will quote the Quran twice more.

Sura 4:34 "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

In the hadiths can be read on multiple occations not only how Mohammed beat his own wives but gave permissions to his followers to do likewise.

According to Sharia Law a man is allowed to strike his wife for the following four reasons:
1. She does not attempt to make herself beautiful for him.
2. She refuses to meet his sexual demands.
3. She leaves the hose without his permission
4. She neglects her religious duties.

Sura 2:223 "Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will..."

You quote Genesis to say He created them equal, but from the same book I say he did not.

Genesis 3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

The verse you quoted, you interpreted wrong. We take scripture quite literally. Let me show you.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them

You see, twice he says in the image of God man was created. After a semicolon, he then says male and female created he them, but two statements only claiming the man to be made in His image. If you think He made man AND woman in His image, I wonder what you think God looks like. Surely God does not have breasts or a cooter! If you think He does, you came to the wrong place friend.

The link you provided shows some verses in the Quran that say women are worth less than men. Of course inappropriate, but does not advocate rape or beating. In fact, the Bible says many similar things.

Genesis 19:8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, an do ye to them as is good in your eyes (Righteous Lot offers to "give away" his virgin daughters to a crowd of rowdy men)

Exodus 19:20 And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged. (If a man has sex with a female slave, SHE alone is to be whipped)

As for the Hadiths - Muslims believe those are writings of men, not inspired by God. Different groups hold different Hadiths, none are shared by all Muslims, and some Muslims follow no hadiths. Hadiths are equivalent to Christian Church's teachings. I could no doubt produce many, many examples of writings of Christian church leaders against women throughout the centuries. Heck, I can start just by quoting people on this very website. But you will say those don't count, no matter how many Christians do or have agreed with them, since they aren't in the Bible.

The christian wife is not considered inferior to her man, as opposed to the muslim wife, who is considered inferior and is managed and controlled.

I wouldn't ever rate a muslim as my friend. Surah 5:51 says "O you who belive! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."

What the word of God says about befriending muslims can be read in 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 and Ephesians 5:5-7.

The Bible is clear that both sexes are created in the image of God and so have equal value: Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

The scriptures you are referring to clearly make a distinction in the roles of the man and woman. But it doesn't mean I mustn't seek my wife's consent. She is not my slave.

Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."

My wife also is my equal in the eyes of the laws of society, which I, as a good christian, must obey.

Right on the spot. Both my wife and myself have quite demanding careers and have so far only been able to find enough energy and time to dedicate ourselves to the raising of one child. However, things change, and I am working for more. My wife has not yet made up her mind about a bigger family
