  • It's good to be here.

Hello, everybody. This is my second posting; my first was a thread I stumbled into while browsing a separate forum.
I have not gone to a formal church since my 8th grade year. I was in Boy Scouts with a Mormon troop, and over time, I fell out of following organized faith.
As of now, I attend a United Church of Christ university in suburban Chicago and have been learning all about faith and religion, as well as my stated majors of politics and philosophy. I am rather youthful and I enjoy debating topics as long as the talk is reasonable and the discussion non-insulting.
I also understand that most of you will attempt to convert me to your faith. Mormons in particular are a rather resilient bunch; they have not been able to convert me over the course of 7 years. I always wish those who insist on doing so the best of luck. But I have found Jesus: he's a cool dude and has a wonderful philosophy. I simply do not like churches or what they have done to Christ. My favorite verse is "Stop grumbling among yourselves, Jesus answered." - John 6:43 (I'll use NIV mostly, as it is what I grew up on, but I can make exceptions).

A favorite book of mine is The Religious Case Against Belief by James Carse. Please read it when you have time.

I look forward to debating semantics with everybody on here.
"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." - Matthew 6:6, KJV

Re: It's good to be here.

This is not a debate forum, friend. This forum is for praising Jesus.

Rather than debating, let's find areas where we agree. I also do not like what modern churches have done to Jesus. Jesus came to Earth to warn us of the danger we are in, and to let us know that we can be saved if we repent of our sins and believe on him. These modern churches make Jesus into some hippie who says the exact opposite -- that we are in no danger, and that there is no need to repent.

The Jesus we believe in is exactly as described in the Bible. The Jesus in the Bible preached the danger of Hellfire and the need for repentance. The false "Jesus" that these modern churches worship doesn't exist anywhere except inside their own imaginations. Believing in that "Jesus" will lead the unaware straight to Hell.

        Pastor Billy-Reuben
Upon request I will cite scripture for all these facts in God's Holy Word.

✝ This is a Christian community and we worship GOD of the Holy bible, the only Living GOD. We worship Jesus Christ, Son of GOD and Savior. Anything else is absurd. ✝

I hate to break it to you but mormonism is the biggest real estate scam in history. Do you really believe you get your own planet when you die?

Does your magic underware have flashing lights?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

You take up with Mormons and a wishy-washy Church of Christ. You rebel against being "converted." And you come here to "debate semantics"? Are you kidding me? With your stiff-necked attitude your "cool dude" Jesus will smite you straight to hell, young son.

Ex. 32:9 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it [is] a stiffnecked people.

Ex. 33:3 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou [art] a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.

2 Chronicles 32:13 And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Israel.

Jeremiah 17:23 But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.
Leviticus 13:44 He is a leprous man, he is UNCLEAN: the priest shall pronounce him utterly UNCLEAN; his plague is in his head.

2 Kings 6:25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

Speaking of semantics, Carse uses some hilarious word-twisting in order to unsuccessfully try to separate religion and belief. That alone will earn him an afterlife twisting in the flames of Hell.

                    Oh dear, another false Christian.

Welcome to the forums, maybe you'll learn a thing or two from the True Christians here and learn to stop cherry-picking the bits of the Bible that suit you.

-Pastor, I will attempt to live up to your expectations of me.
-I am of legal age to partake in the interwebs, Ms. Villalaobos.
-I am by no means Mormon, without discussing their beliefs, (I understand there is a subforum for that).
-I like to associate myself with members of many faiths or lack thereof, it reinforces those beliefs that I profess.
-I enjoyed what I read of Carse, and his words have turned me away from a militant atheistic path, which would have been self-destructive.
-Overall, seems to be a pleasant group here. I look forward to getting back into Scripture and expanding my religious experience.

I'm sorry, I just typed out what I thought was correct in a quick setting. I put "Ms." since I do not know if you are married; I've been raised (somewhat begrudgingly) on southern civility. I hope I earned no offense for skewering your name.
