Being an Atheist is something one should be ashamed of. To so boldly proclaim yourself as such he is a slap in the face to God.
He's asking questions because he's a mocker and he's trying to create some kind of debate. THERE IS NO DEBATE WITH GOD.

If he were really searching to know God, he wouldn't be so proud in his sin and he would humble himself and read the WORDS.

From what I've seen he's more interested in knit-picking the Gospel.

Matters to you? Okay. What I should have said then is that his opinion doesn't matter in the estimate of God. And God's estimate is the only one I'm concerned with.

How do you know what God estimates?

The meaning of the word is entirely subjective and is the reason why God will smote one of two equal True Christians(tm) as a test for the other (and the rest of us). There is no way for any Human to possibly know which of us God chooses to smote to make an example of. Except you, I suppose?
