Dear Landover baptist Church, my favorite verse is John 3:16, and I haven't gone to church in over a year. I am deeply confused about god and what he wants me to do?

I am currently attending college, and I have atheist friends who say I should be an atheist and worship the devil. I would never do that, but I don't know how to react to this or if I am being a good christian by not telling them about Jesus.

One of my professors who I look up to keeps telling me that the world is billions of years old and that we are just evolved from monkeys! Clearly this is not true, but I do not know any verses to explain this to him.

I am deeply in need of some truth, and I am hoping you can help me.

This whole post is a Möbius strip of contradictions.

- You say John 3:16 is your favorite verse (the one where God sends His Son to die [briefly] for our sins) but you can't find the time to go to church.

- You say your friends are atheists, but they want you to worship Satan.

- You want to know how the world works, when that's the first few pages of the Bible.

- You look up to a professor who is clearly lying to you.

Etc. etc.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think...no it can't be true. I won't even say it.

I Atheist dont belive in anything, not even the devil.

As christians we also belive in the devil, but we are not worthshipping him so before you claim a friend to be something, please get your facts straight:

Do you not like the rest of the passage?

The media never reports on John 3:16. Why do you suppose that is? It’s such a nice verse, always written into Tim Tebow’s eye-black. The most popular verse in the whole Bible, I’m sure!

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Isn’t that nice? All you have to do is believe (and obey all 600+ Commands, but they gloss over that part), and you get to live forever!
Maybe they’re concerned someone will read it in context:

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Carrie Christian likes to believe that God’s Grace extends to everyone, no matter what they believe. Yet here, Jesus himself says that anyone not a Christian is damned.

But wait, Jesus goes further!

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Not only are all non-Christians condemned, but they are also evil. The fact that they are not Christians is the indisputable proof. Jesus said so!

Why do you suppose the media doesn’t explain this basic tenet of Christianity, voiced by Jesus himself?

You're being a bad Christian by not witnessing to them. The Bible tells us to:

Mark 16:15 Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

It is your duty as a Christian to witness to everyone. You should start off with the old standby, "Can I give you my testimony?" They will love you for it.

We know the earth is around 6000 years old, because the Bible tells us all the generations and begets from Adam all the way down to Jesus.
