While you are correct that there are a large number of pedophiles in the Catholic church I always hesitate to say they are the church, as that leads to some very passionate chicken and egg arguments. I refer to the fact that those with deviant traits such as pedophilia tend to pick careers in which they can use them for their own means. It's the reason why you hear about so many teachers, parents, school janitors, etc molesting children as it allows them to indulge in their desires.

I understand this is what makes you feel better. It's a loophole in your reasoning, the only way to reconciliate the two diametrically opposing ideas you cannot deny: The catholic church is supposed to be the repository of the faith of Christ; The catholic church cannot explain its own priests violently and repeatedly raping children. Either the holy spirit is effective in the church or it is not. Either the sacraments have effect or they do not. You know the answer, even if you are hesitant to conclude it formally because the church offers you an emotionally secure community.

Well, friend, the catholic church isn't the only community that offers Truth and Love.
