Hello all, I am Sara, I am 25 and I live in Pennsylvania. As you may have noticed by my username, I am Jewish.
I am currently doing a little experiment. I don't know how much you know about the Jewish beliefs or customs, but because Jews are not allowed to handle money on Sabbath, many temples require membership fees and contracts. Sounds odd doesn't it? I'm sure we can all agree, that paying for praying is a strange and uncomfortable concept.
Now, why am I here? I need the help of you Christians. Please know, that I am not here to in any way shape or form, demean or debate your beliefs. You see whenever a Jew complains online about the high membership dues, there is always a host of others jumping on them saying "but we don't do collection baskets!" This to me is utter nonsense, So many churches flourish on the goodwill and sense of community, that I truly believe, that if Christians asked congregants to donate on any day other than Sunday, that their amount would be near the same. Am I wrong?
What I would really like, is if I could find a pastor or preacher, willing to do this experiment with me, proving that money is given in faith and fellowship, not just because there is a basket on your lap, would be willing to allow me to interview him over the phone, and set up a way to test this theory. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
