  • Hello.

    Hello everyone.

My name is Charity Grace. I have been reading many posts, and I think you fine folks might be what I have been seeking.

I was raised in an Amish community in Pennsylvania. My 14 brothers and sisters and I attended school, where my father taught, until 8th grade. We attended church 3 times a week, and each evening was ffilled with joyous Bible study. In our ordnung, we believe the King James Bible from 1611 is the one true and only word of God. I see that you folks believe the same. This makes me extremely happy. I came to love Jesus from the day I could speak. He is, in my eyes, perfection.

I was baptized when I turned 18, and last year when I turned 19, I was engaged to a local boy named Jakob Amman. Unfortunately, last month, Jakob was involved in a horrible automobile vs buggy incident. Evidently, he was listening to the radio in his buggy, when a song by AC/DC started playing. Jakob shouted the words "Back in Black" at the top of his lungs, and spooked his horse. The horse began to run out of control, and veered into the path of an oncoming car. Jakob died on the scene, ironically with "Highway to Hell" blaring from his buggy radio.

Since my fiancé was killed by listening to forbidden music, I have, in turn, been shunned from my Ordnung. I have moved out of my parents' home, and am now living on my own. Landover seems to be a great fit for me.

In closing, I'd like to share my favorite Bible verse,
    Titus 2:4*
"That they may teach the*young*women*to bee sober, to loue their husbands, to loue their children"
    Father loved that verse.

Hello Charity, and a cautious welcome to you.

What's an "ordnung" ? It sounds like some kraut thing.

      Yours in Christ,

I'm sorry for not being clear, and for using an unfamiliar term. Ordnung refers to the set of rules in our Amish community. We also, at times, refer to the community itself as an ordnung.

I don't have a good recipe for kraut, Mr. Smith, but I am extremely skilled at making pies. I hope this is looked at as a good trait. (Leviticus 24:5)

        Thank you for the welcome.

And also, Sister Baptist, thank you for the welcome.

        Charity

Why was there a radio in the buggy?

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Hello there Charity Grace, I hear tell there's a lot of wife beating and child molesting and rape that goes on in Amish communities. Apparently it's your hidden shame? Were you sexually abused by the elders in your community? Why don't you unburden yourself, tell us all about it. I'm sure you'll feel better once you've gotten it off your chest.

Please be as detailed as possible.

                Hi Charity Grace,

What a lovely, Christian name! I am so glad you are free of the Amish community. While I agree with Faith Machine in getting it off your chest, please consider that there are children also reading this. God bless you and help you please Him more!
