Leave it to a pirate to over-estimate the importance of a naval blockade.

While it is true that the French naval blockade helped hasten the end of the war, by the time of the Siege of Yorktown the British were functionally defeated. General Cornwallis was the 5th commander in chief of the British forces (after a long line of failures) and had inherited a fairly dismal situation. He holed up in Yorktown hoping for supplies from Britain, who were much more concerned about the French making inroads in India than the war over here. Even if there had been no naval blockade, it still would have taken roughly 3 months for any assistance to arrive and they still would have had a lot of trouble breaking out of Yorktown.

Any debt of gratitude owed to the French was paid back at least tenfold when we liberated them from the Germans in WW1, again in WW2, and supported them during the Vietnamese war of independence (which the French still managed to screw up).

Maybe before you accuse someone of having a poor grasp of history you should learn a bit of it yourself.

But what about the period before that, such as the American Revolution, where the French helped, and the Napoleonic era, where France became a dominant power? Surely, as the U.S. starts falling apart, it can show some sympathy to countries that resemble it?

Or has that slipped your memory . If it was not for us you would be speaking German. We where quite happy to stay out of the whole darn mess, until Germany bombed Pearl Harbor and Japland declared war on us.

Remember Jimmy just as you owe a debt to the Pirates you also as a nation owe a debt of gratitude to the French, for one of the major turning points of the War of Independence was the French blockade that lead to the surrender of General Charles Cornwalllis at Yorktown.

The French helped what, the South to lose? As for Napoleon, he killed all of the royalty so he could make himself royalty, not exactly what I would call a higher motive.

Also, it wasn't the U.S. that bore the brunt of battle during WWII but the Soviets.

Wow, is this the kind of history they teach you in Europe? Some gratitude.

Finally, why are you implicitly defending the U.S.? Surely, you can name at least 10 reasons why God hates the U.S., and probably even more.

Sure if you include places like California or Jew York City, but those aren't Real America.

If you are going to start a war with another country, at least have the courage to fight.
