Pedro, I will be visiting Lisbon in person this February. My visit is business related, but I plan to take my Bible with me and do some street witnessing while I am there.

I will capture on film the Portugeese in their real environment, wallowing in their filthy, depraved squalor.

I can understand you because I used to be where you are now. I once believed being a good and kind person was morally superior. I once believed being compassionate to those who are weaker and potential victims was the ethical thing to do. I once believed that altruism was a virtue, and that by relating to people through mutually respectful interactions was how humans can get along. But now I know that is all wrong. It is but a lie we humans tell ourselves (Romans 3:10).

You see, when we think we are doing good deeds, the LORD sees only our sin:

Because of this sin, He cannot stand us. The word “filthy” in the Hebrew language comes from the word iddah which literally means “the bodily fluids from the woman’s menstrual cycle.” The word “rags” comes from beged, meaning “a rag or garment.” Therefore, these “righteous acts” (what you consider acts of kindness) are considered by God as repugnant as a soiled feminine hygiene product. But not modern feminine hygiene products. Keep in mind, in the Biblical days, women didn't have feminine wash or disposable products. They rinsed rags in whatever sandy, dirty water was nearby, hung them to dry, and used them again and again every month. It's likely they didn't bathe between months, so you might imagine just how disgusting (and smelly) this image is supposed to be. It is because you yourself are no better than that, being steeped in sin as you are, that God cannot stand you today.

It's nothing personal, though. You see, He simply cannot coexist with imperfection (Habakkuk 1:13). Humans are sinful by birth (Psalm 51:5) and therefore imperfect. But Jesus died so that we could have a way to bypass this fact of nature that God Himself created specifically (John 3:16). So that instead of seeing us, His very own personally made creatures, He sees Christ/the Son/Himself instead (2 Corinthians 5:17)! Then He's not so horrified, because He will have forgotten how disgusting we are (Isaiah 43:25)! Finally, He can let us into Heaven when we die, and there we will live for ever and ever and ever (1 Corinthians 15:42-44)! Don't you see, when we are Born Again, God loves us! swatchpt dear, it doesn't matter that you're Portuguese, God can love you, too! But only if you understand you are a filthy, disgusting, hopeless sinner, and in need of Christ's Redemption.

I don't feel superior to you or anybody. I have no moral issues here whatsoever. I am not even disturbed. My sole purpose was to prove how ridicule were the statements about the Portuguese. What I found was a group of people whose culture is frozen in time. The kind of things I read will hopefully cease to be in a more compassionate society.
