  • Christmas Cotillion 2014

    Ladies,

It is time for our final planning meeting regarding the Christmas Cotillion. We've been meeting all year and so far all is going well. We still need a commitment from all the ladies that your gowns will not clash in color with other gowns. Since Sister Cookie is unlikely to attend this year, I feel confident that we will not see any scarlet colors although traditional red and green is fine.

The Queen of the Cotillion has been won by Sister Daisy for the last eight years. Oh, my, do we think she'll win again this year? Voting will take place at 9 PM. This year, I've arranged for a security detail to protect the votes and keep it honest.

We will need to discuss who will be the dance monitors. I'd also like to continue our conversation regarding catering. Sister Whitford had some objections to using Naomi's Moist Pie. I just want to be sure we bring this to a vote and then we can move forward.

I am grateful that Sister Joanna has agreed to lead the decorating committee and Sister Etheldreda will again choose the appropriate music. I don't want to mention it indiscreetly but someone needs to monitor the sweets table closely this year. No names but V.OS should ring a bell. Ding ding ding?

I look forward to everyone's presence at our next meeting in my home this Tuesday evening. Be sure to have your TC cards for the best parking.

    Hugs,

    Re: Christmas Cotillion 2014

The dress I intend to wear is a beautiful powder blue in color. I may have to choose another dress however if this one can't be let out enough to fit. Since I gained all that water weight from my medication, my clothes aren't as flattering as they once were. It also depends on finding comfortable matching shoes as the bunyons have flared up again and I've suffered from uncomfortable swelling in my feet due to the diabetes.

Surely it was only a misunderstanding about the desserts, Sister Lamb. But on a similar subject, the punch bowls should also be checked and monitored for any unapproved additional ingredients. I don't mean to aim this in your direction, Sister Lamb, just a general statement.

May this year's cotillion be the best ever! Maybe this will be the year someone else will win the vote for Queen. Last year I started to suspect the votes were tallied by the same people who handled Presidential voting that put our Bush in Office! I kid, of course.

Sister Naomi, I think there has been some confusion about this:

Maybe there was some interference on the line (attending meetings via Skype-type communications is less than ideal), but with 6-week old twins, plus the children to tutor, not to mention my other commitments here at this busy time, I really cannot lead the committee. For a start, I would never make important decisions - on fabric, for example - without actually seeing the stuff myself.

What my husband agreed to (his secretary spoke to you or perhaps to one of your people) was to cover the cost of decorating. The budget is flexible. Matthew suggests spending 25% - 50% more than last year, to allow for the cost of employing a professional designer which, he says, should avoid some of the more unfortunate choices we have seen in recent years. When he said "Joanna will take care of it", he meant that you should send me the bill.

Has the date been settled yet? Matthew says it would be a shame to miss it because of a subsequent engagement.

      With best wishes, dear,
      Joanna

I'd be happy to help advise a committee, if you'll have me, my dear Sister Naomi. I unfortunately will be unable to attend myself, my good husband wants me at home, but he would be happy for me to help you with decorations, ideas, and sending over food and anything else.

          Joanna,

I am dismayed and just heartbroken that you will not be able to accept the role of decorating coordinator for our Cotillion. I hope your other obligations don't cause you to go prematurely menopausal since you are obviously intent on bringing forth as many soldiers for Christ as possible prior to the Lord's return. I just know how much He is counting on your womb to be the source of His Army.

The date will be Friday, December 19th. We are hopeful that this will not interfere with Sister Daisy's hair appointment weekend (it takes a while to comb that thing out, so she plans for a couple of days and needs her rest).

Elizabeth, I hope you can provide some ideas dear; I welcome your input sincerely.

One idea that I thought of was if you placed a floral centerpiece of roses and lilies (both are biblical flowers see Luke 12:27 and Song of Solomon 2:1-2) and then place cards at each seat of the young lady. You could have the place card be of a good verse for a young lady (consider 1 Timothy 2:9) in frames made out of gold (as a reminder God is purifying them like gold Zechariah 13:9) and studded with rubies (As a reminder that as virtuous women they are worth more than rubies Proverbs 31:10).

Hello Everyone, I have been absent from this Godly Forum for a few months. For that I apologize.

I hope that I will be allowed to attend this wonderful Christmas Cotillion. I have a lovely sweater (attaching a photo) that I will wear with a long skirt which falls just below my ankles.

Would this attire be acceptable? Oh yes, and the sweater and skirt are all made of the same fabric - adhering to God's commandment in Deut. 22:11 and Leviticus 19:19

                  Dear, Poor, Sweet Bethany:

                  Bless your heart.

First of all, only True Christians(TM) may attend the cotillion. There have been a few that were granted entrance by Pastor Ezekiel, but as I recall they were all males and part of a surprise "after hours clean-up crew" that took over the banquet hall after the event was over. Our loving pastor even stayed to supervise this crew, insisting that the rest of us leave and get rest from a night of wonderful fellowship. That's our darling, Godly pastor for you. Always thinking of others.

I'm afraid the darling outfit you posted would not have been acceptable for this event. It might have been welcome at Mrs. Attila's smaller, less-grand affair during which she served pigs in a blanket and hard boiled eggs sprinkled with some sort of foreign-country delicacy, but not at the cotillion! Horrors! Dear, let me help you.

By private courier, I am sending you a copy of "Baptist Women's Wear Daily," and a gift certificate for $500. Find one of the women in your church to help you select what someone of your station in life might wear, and then as a fun activity, why not post what you choose in a separate thread topic? I'll just be on the edge of my seat waiting to see what little frocks you select!

I know I have not attained the coveted label of True Christian from our Lord and Savior yet, but I was hoping that I would still be able to attend. After reading the original post, I purchased airline tickets from Richmond, Virginia to Freehold and made arrangements at a nearby hotel.

I had hoped everyone would remember that I was allowed to attend the Annual Stoning Event in the Spring. Why, I even won an award for the "Best Stoning Bucket". But I understand that Christmas is such a sacred holiday (since it is the birth of our Lord Jesus) and should have only True Christians in attendance.

Perhaps we could arrange a smaller get together, allowing Forum Members to attend. Something like the Easter Cake Bake Off that we had in the Spring. If you remember, I flew in and attended that event, as well.

Bethany, dear, I certainly recall your attendance at those events. I recall just how kind everyone was regarding my proposed contribution to the bake-off and how enthusiastically everyone was to offer ideas related to my staff helping prepare my entry. Yes, I have quite a memory.

While the good pastors here have final say about special events in Freehold, if they come to me for input I will have to offer my opinion that this should remain a True Christian(TM) gathering. You are, of course, welcome to ask them. Sister Whitford can be somewhat stern about keeping the riff-raff out of our fair city. Not at all am I implying that describes either of you darlings. So, seek the guidance of the pastor. I can't wait to continue planning the cotillion but Sunday is a day of rest, and my after-service meeting with the men that offered to help with heavy lifting was so exhausting!

Hugs to both of you, and once again, give Mike a big hug and kiss for me. I so hope he will enjoy the pie I sent by special messenger today. (I sent one for you, too, Bethany!)

Naomi, to me, while I am sad I cannot attend, I'm not going to make a fuss. The good Lord who knows everything clearly has not made a way for me to attend, therefore, I won't ask Him any longer and pester Him with my nattering. Will you please send me a picture though? I'd love to see how it turns out and all the happy, fearful girls looking at their potential husbands! I remember my Cotillion so well! Of course, I understand how you have to be exclusive to some women -- at my church, we have different events, and sometimes, you have to be a silver tither to attend (I of course am a platinum tither, from the very generous allowance my husband has allowed me). If you don't mind telling me who to contact, I'd like to start tithing to Landover too. Also, thank you for the pie -- my darling Mark is very excited to get it.

First, I so appreciate your husband's generous contributions to the decoration of the banquet hall. I was so surprised when everything arrived so quickly. You would just adore how everything looks, Elizabeth.

Bethany, dear, I certainly recall your attendance at those events. I recall just how kind everyone was regarding my proposed contribution to the bake-off and how enthusiastically everyone was to offer ideas related to my staff helping prepare my entry. Yes, I have quite a memory.

While the good pastors here have final say about special events in Freehold, if they come to me for input I will have to offer my opinion that this should remain a True Christian™ gathering.

                              Dear Sweet Naomi,
I just received my pie today! Since I live so far from Freehold, it took the special messenger a bit longer to get it to me.
But Thank You so much! My husband just loves a juicy pie! He sends his thanks, as well.

Although I will not be allowed to attend the Cotillion, I do hope you will take plenty of pictures and post them for all to see!

Also, I pray that our Lord Jesus will recognize me as a True Christian soon, so that I may be able to attend Landover Baptist Church functions in the future.
