  • Easter Recipe- Colored Deviled Eggs

Hello ladies! I wasn't sure if I should put this recipe in the Easter forum or in this forum, but I figured that since it's a recipe, it would be better to put it here. Someone shared it on Facebook.

Here's the Recipe (not copied word-for-word):

Boil the eggs, cut them in half, and scoop the yolks into a separate bowl. Mix the yolks with whatever you mix them with. Mix 1/2 cup of water, 1 tablespoon cider vinegar (I used white vinegar this morning), and 3-5 drops of food coloring (I'd suggest using 5 drops for the yellow and maybe the red, and 3 drops for the blue and green). Put the whites in the food coloring mixture until they've reached the desired shade of pastel. Take the whites out of the food coloring mixture, get rid of any extra liquid, and put them on a plate. Add the yolk mixture, sprinkle some paprika on top, and serve.

I tried it this morning with blue and green and 5 drops of each makes the whites too dark. As I said before, I would use 3 drops for the blue and green, 5 drops for the yellow, maybe 4 or 5 drops of red, and if you want to try orange or purple, you might want to try 3 drops of each color needed for either one.

    Enjoy!
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
    Deuteronomy 6.5

Sister Esther, what a cute idea! I hope all the Ladies of Landover try out your recipe. It could be interesting to see what some certain members of our congregation can do with it. I can't wait!

Esther dear, that's a lovely idea! I'm sure the children at church will like it. It will look so festive for my ladies brunch! I agree Sister Victory, someone who may have been born in June may make some very well, um...interesting eggs.

I am proud to say that I have never made Devil Eggs in my life and do not intend to begin now! My husband would never permit such a thing.

Also, if God had intended egg-whites to be blue, He would not have made them white.

        Yours in some perturbation,

Thank you, ladies! If I remember, I will take some pictures of the end result on Easter and might post them in here.

Sister Joanna, I can see both of your points quite well. Also, thank you for reminding me about the question that I was thinking of asking about the name for the eggs. I was so excited about sharing the recipe with you and the other ladies of the forum that I forgot to mention it.

I have always felt uncomfortable referring to them as "deviled eggs". They are delicious and the eggs themselves were obviously created by God, so using the word "deviled" to describe them has never felt right and I've always prayed for forgiveness after I make them or talk about them. Have anyone come up for a different and less evil name for them?

Good point, Sister Joanna; however, to the best of my knowledge, God does not forbid them though. Sister Esther, I generally refer to them as "lady eggs" since the men would never touch such frivolity, and us ladies like them!

What a lovely name, Sister Elizabeth! And so appropriate too, especially since they are incredibly delicate and something that no manly and Godly man would eat or even try to make.

What have eggs got to do with Easter?
                And devils?

I fear that demonic and pagan rituals are infiltrating Easter. Easter is about the (temporary) death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Period. What have eggs and devils got to do with that? Worse, homer rainbow-colored devils' egss Do they hatch into homer demons?

Thank you for your support, Brother Jim. It is good to have a TC(TM) man's input into this debate.

As far as I am concerned, nothing that a TC(TM) man would not eat is even worth cooking!

Mr. Farmer, I grew up with the impression that eggs are associated with Easter, but if a reason was given, my feeble mind has forgotten it. As for devils, I have found a new name for the eggs, thanks to Sister Elizabeth.

Ladies, I have a new idea for the eggs that will make them more Jesus-centered. Instead of using a small amount of red food coloring for a delicate pink, you could try using 5 (or maybe more) drops of red food coloring to make a darker, more blood-like color to remind you and everyone else of the blood that Jesus shed for all of us (and the ungrateful sinners).

I too must admit my reservations at putting something bedeviled into my body. Atop that, I never eat anything colored. I knew a guy that ate something colored once. He got warts on his lips and something called clammy-dia in his throat from it.

Nope, I don't eat the colored stuff.

Eggs have nothing at all to do with Easter. Nor do rabbits. They are representatives of Satan - something to do with paganism - to do with fertility rites
Eggs and rabbits have no place whatsoever in a Christian Easter festivity.

And once again, a man has answered a question of mine before I could even ask it. Rabbit stew has always seemed like a better meal during winter than on Easter.

Forgive me for my slightly off-topic comment, but I was going to ask if rabbit stew would be an appropriate Easter meal, but now I don't think I have to. This is why men are superior.

Indeed, brother Jim! Any literate believer knows these spring-time pagan festivities were created to celebrate playing with Satan's Testicles! Neither my children nor the menfolk in my family want anything to do with such horrific things!

Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

Well ladies (and gentlemen), it looks like I'll be spending 2 extra days in my menstra hut. My father saw this thread and agrees that lady's eggs (as Mrs. Johnson calls them) are not appropriate for Easter.

However, he did say that he thinks that they are appropriate for spring, as long as he doesn't have to eat them or they aren't made around the same time as any pagan holidays. He also says that he would consider eating them if there were either bits of steak or bacon in them, if the whites are white, or if they were somehow made more manly.

He also agrees with me about how rabbit stew is not appropriate for Easter and if I bring it up again, I'll be sent to my menstra hut for a week with limited electricity or running water.
