  • I Have News, Praise God!

    Guess what, Ladies?

God has answered my father's and my prayers for a suitor for me. I would have told you about him last Tuesday night after I met him, but I didn't want to take attention away from Sister Naomi's exciting thread.

Unlike my last two suitors, who either left me for a better woman or had some, ahem, sinful tendencies, this one seems to be better for me, according to my father.

The man's is a blond haired, blue-eyed 23 year old named Samuel. He has been in a courtship in the past, but it ended when he discovered that the woman was a "dirty harlot" (his words, not mine). He enjoys pie, especially apple and anything with chocolate in it.

I found out about his visit a few days before it actually happened. It was originally supposed to be a surprise visit, but my father told me about it when I told him that Sister Elizabeth knew a pastor who is looking for a wife (thank you, Sister). When Samuel and his family (parents, older brother, and younger sister) visited on Tuesday evening, I made them a "lovely meal" (again, his words, not mine) of steak with a side of gravy and bacon bread. He ate two helpings of both despite the fact that the steak was a little too dry for him.

After dinner, I served him an apple pie and a chocolate pecan pie. He said that the chocolate pecan pie was "perfect" but that the apple pie needed more apples.

Once dessert was finished, Samuel, his father and brother, and my father left the womenfolk to discuss a possible courtship between Samuel and I. When they came back, they told me that things looked promising, but they all wanted to pray about it for a day or two.

After spending most of the time between last Tuesday and yesterday praying, Samuel called last night and says that after a week's worth of praying, he feels like God wants this courtship to happen and possible end in marriage. I'm so happy!

I'll let you know when ends up happening and I can guarantee that I'll be posting as soon as the engagement happens.

Ooops, I seem to have gotten my days mixed up. I meant last Tuesday, not a few days ago. Samuel really wanted to be sure that courting me was God's Will and not a combination of his desire for a wife and his parent's desire for grandchildren. And there was also something about his older brother and a girl.

Esther, dear, congratulations! I'm very happy for you; you are a fine, gentle woman and will make a lovely wife -- after the learning curve, I know many wives face. I will pray for your courtship to end well and that within several months you will be a happy wife and mother!

      Darling Esther:

So what will be wrong with this one? Um, I mean - Bless God that you've found someone who may be willing to properly court you and perhaps have the grace to see through all the imperfections - just as our Lord does - I'm sure he won't mind the 10 pounds you gained over the winter holidays. Just think positively and all will be well. The Lord promises us blessings when we put our faith and trust in Him: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart: lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths."

Again, this is just WONDERFUL news, sweetie! But I'd hold off on too much planning since the others were such winners. Love you, mean it!

Learning curve, dear? You sweet thing. I think I need to have a talk with Marlin or whatever your husband's name is.

Thank you, Sisters! If the cut above my lip is any indication of a future with Samuel, things might look promising. Clearly he cares enough to correct me when I burn the bacon bread that he asked me for.

I think I might want to meet this Samuel someday, Esther. Before you and he get too close, he might need the counsel of a True Christian(TM) sister.

Of course, Sister! Samuel has expressed his desire to meet some True Christians™, especially Pastor Ezekiel, who he is a big fan of (in a heterosexual way, obviously), and yourself (he has heard wonderful things about your pies). He has said that if your pies live up to the hype (which we have no doubt that they will), he would like to have some at our wedding (yes, he is indeed talking about the wedding).

I'm a stupid woman, Naomi, and I needed lots of correction at first. Ask your parents if you would like to speak with Mark, darling. They are staying with my husband and I for a little spell...your father wanted to visit. Don't worry, I understand you are too busy with your pie shop; after all, all the heathens and potential suitors out here are beneath you.

I would enjoy hearing what Father and Mother are actually doing out there, Elizabeth. Perhaps you can share some of the stories of their visit with you thus far.

You do plan to take them to church on Easter, right?

                    Naomi,

Your parents are out here to talk to me and my husband about some matters that we have discussed before. Yesterday, upon their arrival, they freshened up until supper at 6, where my husband said the blessing and we ate a dinner of venison, chicken pie, mashed potatoes, and chocolate cake. Afterward, we split up. My husband and your father left to go discuss male things in his office, and your mother and I sat in the living room discussing different sewing patterns. Both of them are in the safest part of California. We live in a gated community of Christians that attend my church, and we are highly careful of who we let in. It's like a mini-Landover.

Also, Naomi, Mark is the senior pastor at our Baptist church. They are going to the 10:00 am service and will be sitting with me in the Platinum Tither's (for our church) section. There is utterly no need to put them anywhere else, after all.

                    In Him,
                    Elizabeth

A tentative congratulations to you, sister! May your postnuptial seeding be as quick and unpleasant as possible, as I'm sure it will be for your husband.
