    Tips for the Thrifty Lady

God is very clear in the Bible that being thrifty and wise with your money is good in his sight. Take Proverbs 21:20 for example

"There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up."

And as a woman it is our duty not to be a financial burden upon our fathers or husbands! So with that in mind, what are some of your favorite ways to save money? I thought I would list a couple of mine. Many revolve around sewing as that is how I help ease our burden

1: Never throw away fabric! Has your child outgrown a shirt you sewed him last year? Don't think of throwing it out. Cut it at the seams and make handkerchiefs or knickers our of the left over pieces.

2: This one is time consuming but can save a whopping 6$ a month if your an avid sewer! Reuse your thread. You heard me! Slowly undo each seam of a garment with a straight pin and use it to make a whole new one! I can sometimes use the same strand of thread 3 times before it becomes to weak to be reused!

3: Of course never throw away something on account of holes! Patches are not only incredibly stylish, but ways to reuse old clothing to fix holes in the things you wear

Okay ladies! I'm going to add more later but I thought I might get some of your incredible ways to help save money and please Jesus!
    Thank you all in advance!

Hello young lady. I'm not so sure I like the sleight of a man being foolish.

Proverbs 24:5 " A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength."

But it is so magnificent and tremendous that you do understand your place, believe me.

In my house, the sewing is not so important. But food is.

I would much rather see a wife out at the crack of dawn doing the simple tasks she is capable of. Picking up aluminum cans, bottles and what not. Clipping coupons and making the most of her budget.

I can wear pants (and I do in this family) until they are worn out.

Priorities. Bible, food and my needs.

    In Christ
Matthew 19:14 "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

      Brother,
If that verse seemed to be an underhanded comment toward men I apologize for that was not at all my intention. The Good Lord knows, ANY man is more intelligent than ANY woman!

And I am in agreement with you that cooking is far more important.
However, my husband makes extra income by selling the garments I make from home so it is an area of knowledge to me and I thought I would share that for the other ladies.

But I will keep in mind the important things for our menfolk next time. Thank you for your input and gentle criticism Brother Harold

Well dear, as long as you remember that your duty to obeying and keeping your God and husband happy comes first followed by cooking and maintaining your house and raising your children, doing a little more to help your husband live the lifestyle he deserves is not a bad thing. "She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. ... She maketh fine linen and selleth it and deliverth girdles unto the merchant."Proverbs 31
"Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands." Proverbs 14:1
