Crucified frog sculpture near Pope's summer holiday base provokes protests (The Times)


Pope Benedict DCLXVI's summer break at a seminary in the mountains of northern Italy has led to demands for the removal of a "provocative" sculpture of a crucified frog on show in a nearby museum.

Local Catholics have complained to the police that the work by the German artist Martin Kippenberger, on show at the Bolzano Museum of Modern Art, is a "public obscenity". It depicts a bright green frog with its tongue hanging out, nailed to a cross, with a beer mug in one outstretched hand and an egg in the other.

I'm unsure as to what part of the sculpture the Catlickers find offensive. Is it the depiction of Alcohol? I find that pretty darn offensive. Everyone knows drinking beer will kill a frog.
Is it the Egg? Frogs don't eat chicken eggs as far as i know, and claiming they do is a crime against nature.
Or is it the depiction of crucifixion? As far as I know, many people apart from Jesus were crucified - Jesus didn't have a monopoly on this form of execution, so the Frog could represent absolutely anyone killed in this fashion by the romans. Its only the Catlickers who for some reason think that the frog is Jesus.
My Jesus is a man, a caucasian God incarnate, with blue eyes and a sort of gingery/blonde/sandy blonde/brownish beard of a tasteful length and long clean and washed hair who looks nothing like a bug eyed frog holding a beer mug in one hand and an egg in the other.
Trust the cathlix to see a graven image and mistake it for their Lord and Saviour. Again..

Amen Brother, True Christians™ know that Christ has risen and our crosses do not have some pathetic icon displayed on them. I wouldn't put it past one of our Landover foreign ministry with a sense of humor was up to something with this.

I didn't know whether to be offended or not. After all, the crucifix isn't exactly a symbol of our own church, rather, it is another icon of the false Christian Cathylickers. The little frog is so cute . . . is there anyway we can get him off of that cross? Then I can hang the frog in my garden and the cross on my front door.
