God Smites Don Wildmon, American Family Association Founder!

In what raging atheists will doubtless see as brutal irony, American Family Association founder Don Wildmon was hospitalized this weekend after being smitten by God with meningitis. He is presently in critical but stable condition.

AFA President Tim Wildmon said his 71-year-old father was diagnosed with the disease over the weekend. On Monday, Wildmon said his father’s condition had improved over the last 24 hours. Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord.

Don Wildmon’s Christian right organization began as the National Federation for Decency in 1977, promoting family values and waging boycotts to combat what it deemed pornography and violence on television and in magazines.

Update: A special message from Tim Wildmon, Don's son.

As has been reported, my dad, Don Wildmon, was admitted to the North Mississippi Medical Center over the weekend and diagnosed with a serious case of meningitis. He has been in intensive care for three days, but has shown some signs of improvement in the last 24/48 hours. We are taking it day by day. We thank all those who have let us know they are praying for Dad, our family and the AFA/AFR family. Dad has served the Lord for many years and he is in His hands.

Like you said, he's 71 years old.

Ps 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

I think God might be calling him home.
