Because they are delusional. In this day and age, when there is logical explanations for everything that happens on earth, there is no excuse for truthfully believing in a deity. The reasons you believe in Christ Insanity:

    1. You were taught the Bible at a young age: As truth, not even alongside modern science education. You believe it because your parents believe it because their parents believe it because of many, many generations ago when some con artist told you a Jew rose from the dead.

    2. Fear: "If there is a god, and I believe in her/him/it, I will go to heaven. If there isn't one after all, then nothing bad will happen to me anyway." That's being driven by fear. And that's delusion.

    3. You live in Iowa: The school system is very biased. Regardless of how many "Demoncrats" are in the senate, they can't make you teach evolution in schools without an angle. If you lived on the East Coast, you'd be able to make your own decisions.

Hogwash, and I'm living proof. I was raised by Catholics, who believe that the Bible is worthless and that God speaks through a cross-dressing cannibal pedophile. When I actually read God's Word, I discovered the Truth™ and converted of my own volition (but with His help, of course).

You believe it because your parents believe it because their parents believe it because of many, many generations ago when some con artist told you a Jew rose from the dead.
      Jesus wasn't a joo.

Wrong yet again. True Christians™ aren't afraid of anything, because we know we're going to Heaven.

Actually, activist judges force the religion of evilutionism upon children even in this Godly state, despite what Jon Jewart and his cronies want you to believe. Of course, the only public school in Freehold mysteriously burned down in the eighties, so all of our young ones are taught the Truth™ from an open-minded and Biblically literal perspective. But we're a very rare exception.

No there aren't. Don't be silly. Over 68% of the electorate apparently disapprove of the Great and Godly George W. Bush, and I defy anyone to come up with a logical explanation for that.
there is no excuse for truthfully believing in a deity.
Would you rather we falsely or deceptively believed in a deity?

Stuff and nonsense. As she has pointed out, Sister VDT was raised a Godless Papist, as was Sister Mary; for my sins, I was born into a family of hooknosed kikes, and so it is little short of a miracle that I was able to repent of my Christ-killing ways and accept Him!
        2. Fear: "If there is a god, and I believe in her/him/it, I will go to heaven. If there isn't one after all, then nothing bad will happen to me anyway." That's being driven by fear. And that's delusion.
No, being driven by fear is perfectly rational. HP Lovecraft, the grandfather of goth, spoke an awful lot of rubbish, but he certainly had a point when he said that the oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear. When I avoid the negro and Polack areas of town, I'm driven by fear, but that's hardly delusional, I just don't want to be brutally sodomised and repeatedly murdered.

Um, I live in England. But you're right, the school system is awfully biased, the Truth of God's creation of the world hardly gets a look in.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.
