Oriental cultures have ancient beliefs, some of which they still believe today, and many of which are very strange to the Western cultures. So they think elephant crap is lucky, big deal. The thought most likely started thousands of years ago, and the people simply took hold of it. They probably think it's odd that Western culture thinks a four-leaf clover is lucky.
