Woman's Scream Causes Wreck
7 People, Including 2 Children, Injured In Wreck
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -- Seven people were hurt Friday afternoon, after a woman screamed, startling a driver and causing wreck, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
SCHP Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles said eight people were in an SUV on Interstate 85 near mile marker 70 in Spartanburg County. Hiles said a woman who was a passenger in the SUV thought an 18-wheeler that was traveling in the same direction was about to veer into their lane, so she screamed.
The scream startled the driver, who veered left, hit the median wall and then veered back to the right, hitting the 18-wheeler.
The SUV overturned, ejecting two children. Hiles said that the most seriously injured was a 9-year-old boy. He was transferred from Spartanburg Regional to Greenville Memorial. All seven people in the SUV were injured.
