A Salvadorean nun who said she had no idea she was pregnant gave birth in Italy this week after she felt stomach cramps in her convent and was rushed to hospital, Italian media reported on Friday.

The 31-year-old mother and her baby boy, who weighs 3.5 kilogrammes (nine pounds), are doing well and other new mothers in Rieti hospital have begun collecting clothes and donations for her, the reports said.

"I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain," the nun was quoted as saying at the hospital, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

La Repubblica said she gave birth on Wednesday.

ANSA said the nun had named her baby Francesco (Francis) -- also the pope's chosen title and one of the most popular names in Italy, where St Francis of Assisi is the much-loved national patron saint.

The hospital could not be reached for comment.

The nun belongs to the "Little Disciples of Jesus" convent in Campomoro near Rieti, which manages an old people's home and reports said she would keep the baby.
Her fellow nuns were quoted saying they were "very surprised".

Just for the benefit of anyone whose Italian geography is shaky, Rieti is about an hour's drive from the Vatican - probably less in the Popemobile, with an escort of police outriders.

Why would they? We True Christians™ have long understood why the Roman institution doesn't do a better job of teaching Scripture: The more Catholics know and understand God's Word, the fewer Catholics there will be.

Yes, understanding the fullness of the bible is central to any TRUE CHRISTIAN!

Even most (so called) Baptist Churches, try to expunge what LIEberals might find troubling.

Most Catholics I know (they are the vast majority among Christians here in India ) don't even believe in the Original Sin because the Pope himself told them. And then they have concepts like purgatory, Our Lady of Fatimah, Saint worship...go figure why do these impostors get to call themselves Christian anyway. They'd be better off throwing in their lot with pagans including Hindus, Mussalmans, Taoist-Shinto Chink religions ...

Long back when I was an Anglican (I'm ashamed of that sinful period in my life), we used to sing this Pope-bashing song on certain occasions. Sing along with me brethren, that's as far as we should be able to agree with Anglicans on Christianity.

This situation comes as no surprise to me. The Romans have taken the road of trying to appeal to the most ill educated and ill informed of all the Earth's peoples and to do so with smart sounding theories that are nothing but bunk. They have become the Democrats of religion.

Their mistake, which they have fallen into as a result of their schemes for domination (in the manner of the Democrats), is to try to appeal to unsaved wretches who simply do not care that God loves them and all they want to know is what is for dinner and what is on TV.

They spew out false doctrine that is easily dismissed as tripe by anyone who is paying the slightest bit of attention. They employ the cult of personality by lavishing praise on their Pope, though anyone who looks can see he is a fool.

It is difficult to know if these tricks were developed by the Romans and then copied by the Democrats, or if the Democrats invented these tricks and they were then aped by the Romans. In any case, their foundations are built on shifting sands and they must eventually fail. Only the intercession of the Devil has kept them around as long as they have been here thus far.
