I got a call from my friend Mayor Sandy McGrath of Eagle Grove, Iowa, just an hour north of Freehold. Sandy wanted to know how to stop a wild eyed homer who owns a bar there from holding a drag queen show.
Time is growing short, Sandy told me. The show is scheduled for New Year's Eve and must be shut down. Men dressed as women is a moral issue, the Mayor said. I headed straight to Eagle Grove.
The ordinance they have there is a little vague. What you need, I told the city, is a law against men dressed as women, not terms like "entertainment in poor taste." When I left I thought the show was canceled. Now that is uncertain. That town needs to unite and stand against immoral entertainment.
