South Bend gives away free prom dresses, with a Christian touch
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Dozens of girls lined up for free prom dresses in South Bend. What they didn't know was that a free chastity belt would be given as well.
Washington High School senior Aricka Thomas was one of the students who came Saturday morning to the College Football Hall of Fame for the Princess for a Night annual event.
Thomas says dresses can cost $130 or more, so she hoped to find the right dress for free. And the free chastity belt meant that her Father allowed her to attend the prom.
The dresses were given away on a first-come, first-served basis to girls who showed their student identifications. The chastity belts were personally fitted by the Chairman of Students for Christ, along with the male members of the Christian group.
Ziker Christian Cleaners & Shirt Laundry sponsored the event along with the Junior League of South Bend Inc.
Ziker Christian Cleaners say more than 1,200 gently used prom dresses were collected for the event, which last year helped more than 500 girls from 58 area high schools. The used chastity belts were scrubbed clean by local negroes.
