As you might guess, Mayors go to meetings on every topic imaginable. At a meeting last week the Iowa Economic Development Administration explained how Iowa can benefit from all the oil spills that are happening all over the world. Tuna and salmon are dying. This means Iowa can export its two gourmet species of fish, catfish and carp.
Iowa has award winning catfish farms. And, its river and streams are teeming with its native fish, the carp.
A chef made a presentation at the meeting showing how remove most of the bones from a carp.
I didn't mention this to anyone, but it occurred to me there might be some economic opportunity for Freehold in this new development. Perhaps we could bus in some people to process fish. Give me a call at City Hall if you have ideas.
